A good question!

Father Martin Fox asks:

"Exit question:

Can a people live together in harmony if they do not agree on fundamental reality?"

That seems something that a lot of people are asking these days. Fake news. MSNBC. CNN. Brietbart. Maddow. Hannity. 

Each side has it sources. Each side has it's facts. A fact is a fact but how it is interpreted  determines what you believe. Take this trans-gendered nonsense.

President Trump has announced that it is his policy to not allow trans-gendered members of the armed forces. As usual with Trump it all comes down to money. He doesn't want to pay for some psycho to enlist and then demand a addadicktome. I doubt he cares all that much about trans-gendered. I doubt that most "normals" care either. Live and let live. We think about them about as much as we think about paranoid schizophrenics. Which is not at all unless you put them in our face on the subway screaming at us for loose change. That is the fundamental reality.

A 39-year-old mother was mugged while breast-feeding her infant in a leafy upper Manhattan park — but the actress said the incident will not scare her into moving out of the city.

Elena Sobina’s 6-month-old daughter, Kelly, had just fallen asleep after nursing and she was as relaxed as could be when she felt somebody standing behind her around 5:30 p.m. Friday in an observation area of Fort Tryon Park.

“I was very relaxed,” the new mom said. “I wouldn’t even think about anything like that. I had my phone in my right hand and then I felt somebody standing behind me very close. I turned my head and the guy grabbed my shoulder near my neck.”

She said it was difficult to remember exactly what happened next, but she — and her baby — were thrown to the ground.

“The baby woke up and started to scream,” she said. “She was on the ground and I was kind of above her.”

The baby had a scratch on her lip, Sobina said.

“I saw him from when I was on the ground and he had a knife in his right hand,” she said. “He started to come toward me and I started to scream, ‘Help me! Help me!’”

“He didn’t say anything, so I wasn’t sure what he wanted,” she said. “I thought he wanted to kill me and the baby. So I started to scream to him, ‘Please take my money and the bag.’”

That’s when the attacker, later identified as Juan Garcia, 31, took her bag and ran away. Sobina put the baby back in her stroller and ran in the same direction, stopping to tell her tale to a good Samaritan who called 911.

Police were able to find Garcia by tracking Sobina’s iPhone. He was charged with robbery, criminal possession of stolen property and acting in a manner injurious to a child. He was charged with possession of stolen property and criminal trespass in 2013.

Sobina said she likes the neighborhood because of the very park where she was mugged.

“I’m trying not to breast-feed outside anymore,” said Sobina, whose husband asked if she wanted to move away. “His other idea was to get a dog.”

You can't watch regular episodic TV anymore. I turn on Hawaii Five O to watch scenes of the scenery and the many hotels that I have stayed at on my visits to that paradise. Hoping to see a little good natured crime stories when the villains get caught at the end of the hour. I know the villains will always be old white guys but that is just a Hollywood convention like the girl who only has to take off her glasses to find out she is beautiful.

The episode started off in a very friendly manner with the marriage ceremony of one of the main characters. Kono gets married to her long time love interest who is a scion of the Japanese crime syndicate the Yakuza who is going straight so he can marry a cop. So far so good right? Ten minutes later she is tied to a chair and being tortured. Some dude is ripping her teeth out with a pair of pliers and throwing the bloody tooth on the floor. Casual brutality. In a subplot. Among shootouts and various mayhem. She frees herself by grabbing a scalpel and gutting her torturer. Then runs off and gets her finance gut shot. All in a couple of minutes.

Things have just become worse and worse. When you watch old school dramas you realize how talented those people were. Just because you can show it doesn't mean you have  to show it. Leave a little to the imagination. Leave the gratuitous gore to HBO and Showtime. Deviancy and filth are the go to level of entertainment nowadays. It is just ridiculous. I have to put this show on the list with Blue Bloods and Chicago PD and all the Law and Orders that I have not watched in years.

Luckily I DVRed a bunch of Hallmark Movies to watch.

I won't be going back to Hawaii any time soon.
