Senator Ben Sasse Making Sense

“The dehumanization of our friends and neighbors — whether they're in the opposite party, or in the womb — destroys our national life together and our national conversations.”

I've recently decided to be more vocal on pro-life issues via twitter. The other side is just getting too bold and too extreme on this issue. A future where live-birth abortions are common place is too depressing to contemplate. I feel I must speak up. And if you feel about it as I do, I hope you do the same. Thanks.

Help get Gosnell Movie into more theaters

Years ago I made a small go-fund-me contribution to help make a movie about the abortion butcher Kermit Gosnell and now I'm pleased to announce the movie has been made.

Now, however, I've received an e-mail asking for my help in getting the movie played in more theaters. I'm posting this plea for help here, so maybe you can help them too.
Dear Supporters,

Sorry to write to you so soon again but we need your help with getting the Gosnell Movie into more theaters. It's time you called your local AMC, Cinemark or Regal theaters and ask them to show Gosnell when it opens on October 12th.

We are having pre-screening across the country and the Gosnell - The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer is playing to packed house and captivated audiences. Check out our Twitter feed and Facebook page for the reviews. Everyone loves it.

But we need your help to make sure the film is a success when it opens natiowide on October 12th. At the moment we are fighting to get the film into theaters. Right now we have about 180 locations booked and you can find them here. We plan to have it in 600-700 theaters so that most people in the US will be close to a cinema showing Gosnell on opening weekend.

However theater chains need to be persuaded to show Gosnell. They need to see the demand for the movie at a local level and to be convinced that the theater will be full on the opening night. So we need you to phone your local AMC, Cinemark or Regal theaters and urge them to have the Gosnell Movie on opening night October 12th. Our distributor says that the theater chains really pay attention if enough people phone and demand a movie and they open up screens. So you can make a huge difference.

So please, as soon as you read this, phone your local AMC, Cinemark or Regal theater. Almost 30,000 people funded the Gosnell Movie. We have created a great film starring Dean Cain (Young Superman) and directed by veteran actor Nick Searcy but we don't have to tell you that a large part of Hollywood and the mainstream media don't want this film to succeed. But we've been assured that if these local theaters receive the calls from customers that they will open their screens to the film.

The establishment want this film to fail. Don't let them succeed, please call your local AMC, Cinemark or Regal theater today.

Thank you,
Phelim

"California’s Assault on Abortion Pill Reversal Is an Assault on Women’s Choice"

Via InstapunditIf there was any doubt about California’s status as the nation’s standard-bearer for abortion, a recent letter sent by the state’s Board of Registered Nursing should clear that up in a jiffy.

Acting at the behest of abortion activists in the state Legislature and online media, the board—which is overseen by California’s Department of Consumer Affairs—reversed its decision from just a month prior, demanding that Heartbeat International “cease and desist” educating nurses on a breakthrough medical intervention that can allow a woman to halt a chemical abortion.

Since doctors Matthew Harrison and George Delgado published initial research in 2012, over 350 doctors have joined the Abortion Pill Reversal network, preparing themselves to follow the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol with patients of their own.

The results on the ground have been significant, with over 300 mothers successfully rescuing their children from abortion through the new medical intervention.

Later that same year, Heartbeat International—a pro-life pregnancy help network that serves 2,200 affiliates worldwide and operates a 24/7 pregnancy helpline—began training nurses on the treatment, which utilizes emergency and ongoing progesterone injections to save the life of an unborn child.

In late July, the board informed Heartbeat International that it could award continuing education units for nurses who demonstrate a grasp for the science and patient care involved in counteracting the effects of a chemical abortion.

The board’s approval seemed to conclude a 17-month audit of hundreds of pages of submitted documentation from Heartbeat International, stretching back to February 2016.

During the audit process, the board had questioned Heartbeat International’s inclusion of Abortion Pill Reversal courses, but ultimately approved those courses after Heartbeat International responded with a multipoint statement demonstrating their relevance to nursing practices.

That reinstatement came in a letter on July 28. No subsequent paperwork or filing of any kind was requested prior to or cited in the most recent letter.

Heartbeat International’s president, Jor-El Godsey, noted that the board’s sudden reversal directly undermines a woman’s ability to “choose” the outcome of her pregnancy—something pro-choice advocates claim to support.

“This is a naked political assault on a procedure that is the very essence of choice,” Godsey said.

“To oppose Abortion Pill Reversal is not only to deny the science and reality that there are children living today because of it, but it’s to materially keep a woman from even so much as knowing she has the option to potentially stop a chemical abortion once it has begun. This is the abortion lobby taking choices away from women.”

"Iceland close to becoming first country where no Down's syndrome children are born"

Via InstapunditIceland is close to becoming the first country where no-one gives birth to a child with Down's syndrome.

Pre-natal tests were introduced in the early 2000s, and the vast majority who receive a positive test have terminated their pregnancy.

While the tests are optional, all expectant mothers are informed about their availability, and up to 85 per cent choose to take it.

It’s called the Combination Test, and uses ultrasound and blood tests – as well as factoring in the mother’s age.

This determines whether the foetus will have a chromosome abnormality, the most common of which results in Down's syndrome.

Florida man vs Florida mosquito

"Rep. David Jolly Brings Florida Mosquitoes Onto House Floor to Discuss Zika" (video at the link)
"I rise with about 100 mosquitoes straight from Florida...mosquitoes capable of carrying the Zika virus," Jolly said, holding the container. "This is the reason for the urgency, this is the reason for the fear."
"It is our job to respond to the fear and the anxiety and the anger of a population concerned about a pending public health crisis, concerned about mosquitoes," he said. "You see, I brought these mosquitoes here today to convey that fear and that anxiety of millions of Americans and Floridians."

"Supreme Court Strikes Down Strict Texas Abortion Law"

NBC News:  The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday struck down one of the nation's toughest restrictions on abortion, a Texas law that women's groups said would have forced more than three-quarters of the state's clinics to shut down.

The decision was 5-3.

Passed in 2013, the law said clinics providing abortion services must meet the same building standards as ambulatory surgical centers. And it required doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

Since the law was passed, the number of clinics providing abortion services in Texas dropped to 19 from 42. Opponents said that number would fall to ten if the Supreme Court upheld the law.

"South Carolina Gov. signs 20-week abortion ban"

AP:  The law took effect Wednesday with the Republican governor's signature. The only exceptions are if the mother's life is in jeopardy or a doctor determines the fetus can't survive outside the womb.
These bans are now in effect in 13 states and blocked by court challenges in three other. South Dakota's ban takes effect July 1.

Grantchester poses some interesting questions.

I don't think youse guys have been watching "Grantchester" on PBS recently. It has a pretty interesting storyline that pulls the strands of a couple of important policy points without being overly preachy.

PBS or actually the BBC is running a full court pro-abortion press in several of their historical dramas. In last weeks "Call the Midwife" they had a whole big abortion plot. It seems this young teacher gets knocked by her married lover and hilarity ensues. She faints in the classroom and throws up on the tots. It is a big mess.

She gets thrown out of her flat by the very judgmental boarding house owner and goes to the nun's residence for help. She had struck up a friendship with one of the peripheral nuns who needed a storyline. Sister Winifred was speaking at the school when she picks up that this broad is knocked up. So when she is on the streets she goes to the Sister as the only one to help her. The nuns get her a spot in another less picky boarding house where she proceeds to go full wire hanger. The whole ten yards. In the hospital. Hysterectomy. Which happened all the time I am sure. I mean women had the babies all the time but other women did not so that is fair enough. But what is strange is how the Nun was blaming herself for it. She didn't get her knocked up. She did nothing but be kind to her and help her out. They just had to load the dice. It is very well done subtle propaganda. Planned Parenthood should take a lesson.

"Abortion Activist Claims Planned Parenthood Videos Caused Raid At His Home"

Agents seized all video footage from his apartment, along with his personal information, David Daleiden said in a Facebook post. Daleiden, the founder of a group called the Center for Medical Progress, said agents left behind documents that he contends implicate Planned Parenthood in illegal behavior related to the handling of fetal tissue.
Rachele Huennekens, a spokeswoman for state Attorney General Kamala Harris, said in an email that she can’t comment on any ongoing investigation.
Harris, a Democrat, is running for the U.S. Senate. Daleiden suggested in the social media posting that the raid was politically motivated because Harris has accepted campaign contributions from Planned Parenthood.

"Hillary Clinton's 'unborn person' comments angers both pro-choice, pro-life sides"

"“The unborn person doesn’t have constitutional rights,” Mrs. Clinton said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “Now that doesn’t mean that we don’t do everything we possibly can in the vast majority of instances to, you know, help a mother who is carrying a child and wants to make sure that child will be healthy, to have appropriate medical support.”
Mrs. Clinton also said “there is room for reasonable kinds of restrictions” on abortion during the third trimester of pregnancy.

...The comment “further stigmatizes #abortion,” Ms. Arellano said in a tweet. “She calls a fetus an ‘unborn child’ & calls for later term restrictions.”

...“This is Trump-level gaffery,” Mr. Podhoretz said in a tweet. “If you acknowledge personhood, then the unborn has every Constitutional right.”"

"Indiana just banned abortion if the fetus has Down syndrome"

Washington Post:  The law, which was passed by the legislature earlier this month, would make Indiana the second state in the nation, after North Dakota, to ban abortion in cases where a fetal anomaly is detected. It also would bar the procedure in instances where the decision is based on the sex or race of the fetus. And it could make Indiana the first state in the country to require that fetal remains be buried or cremated, rather than treated like medical waste.
Among the critics of the measure were several Republican women in the state House, who said they considered themselves “pro-life” but thought this bill went too far. Still, the signing of the law by Pence — a staunch opponent of abortion who is in a tight race for reelection — was fully expected. (Link to story)

"Pro-Choicers’ Reaction to Doritos Super Bowl Ad"

National Review Online: A significant number of Americans profess to watch the Super Bowl “just for the commercials,” and the best and the worst ads make headlines for days afterward. This year, an ad for Doritos chips is causing controversy, for an implied pro-life message.

What’s causing controversy is the portrayal of that unborn baby as one with an actual human personality. As NRO’s Jay Nordlinger noted earlier, the ad dares to portray the unborn child as human, and “not a meaningless blob of protoplasm.”

The pro-abortion activist group NARAL tweeted its disapproval, criticizing Doritos for “using #antichoice tactic of humanizing fetuses.”
“Humanizing” fetuses? How dare they imply that human fetuses are actually – quelle surprise! – human?

Dad demands abortion after surrogate learns she’s having triplets

New York Post By Carl Campanile November 25, 2015

A man who paid a surrogate to have his baby became overwhelmed when he learned she was having triplets — and demanded the woman abort one of the fetuses while threatening her with financial ruin, she claims.
“They are human beings. I bonded with these kids. This is just not right,” mom-to-be Melissa Cook told The Post on Tuesday.
Cook’s heart-wrenching dilemma comes as Gov. Andrew Cuomo and state lawmakers are weighing whether New York should lift its ban on commercial surrogacy, which was enacted in 1993.
The babies’ dad, a Georgia man, hired Cook for $33,000 to have a child by in-vitro fertilization using his sperm and the eggs of a 20-year-old donor.
The California woman was implanted with three embryos, which defied the odds to all go on to develop normally.
Cook, 47, said she and the man learned she was having triplets when the embryos were around 8 or 9 weeks. He almost immediately began to raise concerns, and they have grown increasingly threatening, she said.
Cook, a mother of four — including her own set of triplets — is now 17 weeks pregnant.
She also had a fifth child as a surrogate.
California law says that aside from life-threatening exceptions, fetuses can’t be aborted once they become “viable,’’ or around 20 weeks.

Ben Carson: how have we "managed to convince women that that baby inside of her is her enemy and that she has that right"

"Speaking at “The Gift of Life Banquet” fundraiser for First Choice Pregnancy Center in Las Vegas, Carson argued that the “culture of death” was accepted in America because of “peer pressure.”
“Someone has tried to make this into an issue of women’s rights,” the GOP hopeful told the crowd.

“What about the baby? You know, it’s one of the most sacred relationships in the universe, a mother and that child inside of her. How have we become so distorted that we have managed to convince women that that baby inside of her is her enemy and that she has a right.”"

-----------------

This, for me, goes to the heart of the question of abortion. At the center of the decision to abort is the woman's choice to kill not just an individual, but also part of herself, based on societal reasons.

"Judge Blocks Alabama From Ending Planned Parenthood Funding"

"U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson issued an order that temporarily bars Alabama from cutting off Medicaid contracts with the group's clinics in Alabama. Planned Parenthood Southeast and a Medicaid recipient filed suit in August, days after Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley announced he was ending the Medicaid agreements with the two clinics."
In his 66-page opinion, Thompson said Alabama did not identify a legal reason to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood and that the state's action likely violated a free-choice-of-provider provision of the federal Medicaid Act that limits a state's ability to bar family planning providers for reasons unrelated to quality of care...
Thompson noted Alabama's termination letter to Planned Parenthood did not give a reason for the ending the provider agreement that the organization could appeal through administrative channels.
The bulk of Planned Parenthood services is abortion, which seems to be somehow linked to "health". What does a woman's health have to do with abortion?

"OFFICE DEPOT Refuses to Print Anti-Abortion Flyer for Catholic Woman"

"The prayer was composed by the Rev. Frank Pavone, national director of the anti-abortion group Priest for Life. It calls on God to “Bring an end to the killing of children in the womb, and bring an end to the sale of their body parts. Bring conversion to all who do this, and enlightenment to all who advocate it.”
The prayer also includes statistics about abortion in the U.S. and decries “the evil that has been exposed in Planned Parenthood and in the entire abortion industry.”
Company spokeswoman Karen Denning tells the Chicago Tribune that Office Depot prohibits the copying of material that advocates “the persecution of certain groups of people,” among other criteria. She says the flier “contained material that advocates the persecution of people who support abortion rights.”
Sadly, the videos don't seem to have made any significant damage to the death industry.

"Over 90% of pregnant women who enter Planned Parenthood will have an abortion"

"An ex-Planned Parenthood director recently discussed the moment of truth for her and some dirty secrets her former employer does not want the public to know. Abby Johnson worked at a Planned Parenthood facility in Texas for 8 years, eventually working her way up to director. She recently sat down for an interview with conservative political commentator Steven Crowder and shared why she left the industry."

"3rd Planned Parenthood Sting Video Reveals Profit Strategy, Insider's Gruesome Account"

"Today, the Center for Medical Progress unveiled their third video detailing the sale of baby parts from aborted fetuses on behalf of Planned Parenthood. This video details an on camera interview from whistleblower Holly O’Donnell, a phlebotomist and “procurement technician” at StemExpress. It also includes sting footage of another Planned Parenthood official describing in detail the sale of fetal body parts."
