Blue Blazes

 

Single blue blaze = side trail, go straight. I remember seeing these on the Appalachian Trail; it's kind of amusing to find them in our little neighborhood park. (There are no white blazes there. Zen koan: can there be a side trail, when there is no main trail?)

Well, it's good to know that, if I keep my wits about me and follow the signs, I won't die of exposure, lost and alone, and be eaten by the crows and feral cats, a hundred yards or more from the nearest road.

A friend of mine took this picture several years ago while on a road trip, somewhere in the Southwest. No doubt they've added a “Mask Required” sign by now.

Queue Jumping? Seriously, Mister County Government Bureaucrat? This is the Great American Suburbs here, not Wanking-on-Thames, Surrey. You'll notice we're driving on the right.

Used to be, the Brits would whine, or maybe whinge, about Americanisms creeping into the Queen's English and polluting the noble language of Shakespeare. Now that seems to be going the other direction, and we have a cabal of PBS-watchers out to poncify our street signs.

Alleged thief: "I, and any other American who is against Mr. Trump, am better than you in every single way imaginable"

Walpole Mass:  A thief who climbed a tree to steal a Donald Trump campaign sign from the front yard of a home allegedly left a note insulting the homeowner for their support of the GOP candidate, saying they’d continue taking the signs if they replaced them.

“As you may have noticed, I have stolen your sign for a third time,” the note reads.

In a letter addressed to “Dear Mr. or Ms. Trump supporter,” the person who stole the sign–and had stolen Trump signs from the same yard twice before–insulted the homeowner for thinking that moving the sign ten feet up into a tree would deter them.

“I can only believe you thought that you were outsmarting me when you put the sign on the tree,” the thief wrote. “This is clearly false, because there is no way that a Trump supporter can outsmart anyone.”

The note continues, insulting the homeowner for their support of the Republican presidential nominee.

“People of your kind are in fact, the most dimwitted, low level, simpletons that any well-developed nation has to offer,” the thief wrote.

“I, and any other American who is against Mr. Trump, am better than you in every single way imaginable (especially in the areas of intelligence, reasoning, and problem solving).”

At the end, the thief threatens to strike again, saying, “Not even a great wall will stop me.”

'Racist' Pool Safety Poster: Red Cross Alopologizes

NBC:  A Red Cross Hospital signboard that carried a "super racist" message about swim safety guidelines for children prompted an apology from the hospital on Tuesday.

The dialogue opened on Twitter after a photo circulated of the poster in Fort Morgan, Colorado. The poster, which has since been taken down, read at the top: "Be Cool, Follow the Rules." Below the heading were depictions of children playing. The white children were labeled as behaving "cool" while children of color were depicted as misbehaving, or "not cool," for breaking pool safety rules.

Red Cross has since confirmed that it has discontinued the production of the poster and has already removed it from the hospital's website and Swim App.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1juNiqP) that Sean Mace is suing the U.S. government, the National Park Service, the Department of the Interior and San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park for $5 million.

Mace's attorney Scott Johnson says the veteran was relaxing under a non-native pine tree at the maritime park when the cone fell, causing an irreversible brain injury. Johnson says Mace has had two surgeries and requires a third.

We need gravity control legislation.

“Home For Sale” Sign Calls Out Neighbor; Turns Heads

"Lisa Price said she put up the sign to send a message to the neighbor renting the house next door, who put up cameras peering into her backyard and repeatedly complained to the city about her dogs.
“He knew we had dogs when he moved in,” she said.
The final straw was a $121 ticket in the mail citing her for a “barking dog.”
Price said she doesn’t really intend to sell her home, but was driving home a point.
“We thought maybe that would help him to back off,” she said."

Amy Ford of the Colorado Department of Transportation says the "MILE 420" sign near Stratton was stolen for the last time sometime in the last year, and officials replaced it with a sign that says "MILE 419.99."

Ford says it's the only "420" sign to be replaced in the state that recently legalized recreational marijuana.
