"Georgia judge refuses transgender man's name-change request"

MyAJC:  Feldhaus, 24, of Grovetown, was born female but identifies as male. Judge Roper heard the petition for a name change in February and issued an order in March turning it down. He took particular issue with Feldhaus’ choice of Elijah as a middle name.

“I don’t know anybody named Elijah who’s female,” Roper said, according to a transcript of the hearing. “I’m not going to do that. I’ve never heard of that. And I know who Elijah was, one of the greatest men that ever lived.”

Feldhaus, a sergeant in the Army Reserve and a student at Augusta University, said in statement that he felt insulted and objectified to be told he can’t use the name that family, friends and co-workers already use.

“It can be a scary situation when I show up for work or the first day of class and my legal name does not match my public presentation and my gender identity,” Feldhaus said. “I just want to change my name so that it reflects who I am.”

"Obama administration renames Mount McKinley to Denali"
The order was signed Friday, but the White House asked that it be announced Monday as part of Obama's trip to Alaska to highlight the effects of climate change in the Arctic. The White House said the name change "recognizes the sacred status of Denali to generations of Alaska Natives."

New York Mag: "Guy Who Called LeBron James the ‘Whore of Akron’ Forgives Him Now"

"Broadway Danny Rose said it best — 'Acceptance, forgiveness, and love,'" Raab writes after today's big news. "As human beings, that's the only recipe for leading a righteous life in this world. Such words — from the famous and unfamous — come cheap. But you're living those truths now, walking that walk. Who am I to hold a grudge?"
In other words, Scott Raab, who profited off of his sports-fan indignation, read James's touching announcement as an apology to Scott Raab, and he would like the best basketball player on earth to know that apology is accepted.

"FULL METAL HAVOK MORE SEXY N INTELLIGENT THAN SPOCK AND ALL THE SUPERHEROES COMBINED WITH FROSTNOVA."

That is the name a man from Dunedin, New Zealand came up with to change his name. At 99 characters, it is the longest legally allowed by the country's Department of Internal Affairs.
Mr. Frostnova's name change reportedly comes five years after he lost a poker bet. The 22-year-old was apparently waiting for his passport to expire before making good on his debt.

The New Zealand Herald has the Ts&Cs of kiwi naming conventions:
In 2008, Family Court Judge Rob Murfitt publicly criticised some parents' choice of names, after he ordered that a girl named Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii be taken into court custody so she could change her name.
The DIA has to draw the line somewhere. If it didn't, people might get carried away.

Why the name change?

The name changed but the concept remains the same.
We want to have a place for commenting.
In an email exchange with Freeman, she said "Thank you so much for creating a new comment home!"
I thought, that's exactly what the place should be called. and my Picard said ... Make it so!

Again. As I said before. Its up to us to keep it. I'm doing my best to keep it alive. Fresh. People that disrespect what we are trying to do, will be asked to leave. I just decided.
