Doc's best line was, "You're a daisy if ya do".

Also

"Sergeant, pour me some scripture" and "O'Rourke, is that officer, by chance, related to you?" "Not by chance, colonel, by blood!", Fort Apache.

"Walking through life with you, madam, has been a very gracious thing" and "You know the difference between money and glory? You get to take glory with you", They Died With Their Boots On.

"I've been offered a lot for my work, but never everything"; "Insults swallowed - none. People you step aside for - none. Enemies - none", "No enemies?", "Alive"; and "Nobody hands me my gun and tells me to ride on. Nobody!" The Magnificent Seven

"I'm looking at a tin star with a drunk pinned to it", El Dorado

And, of course, "Never apologize, mister. It's a sign o' weakness"

There's no doubt that "I'm your huckleberry" is a great line, but I wonder how many people are clear on what it means? Urban Dictionary says it means "I'm the guy you've been looking for" or "I'm the guy who can do the job." Not sure that helps, given what happens next.

Johnny Mercer ended Moon River with...."waitin' round the bend, my huckleberry friend, Moon River, and me."

There the meaning is more my sweet friend for life.

On The Waterefront: I coulda been a contender...I coulda been somebody.

Don't ask me why but there's another line in Waterfront that sticks in my mind. After John Friendly finds some goon cheating him, before he has his other goons throw the cheating goon out he says, "You come from Greenpoint? Go back to Greenpoint."

A couple of others

"He forgot why we came here", Guns Of Navarone

"Ya see dat road down dere? Well, don't take dat one, it'll do ya no good at all", The Quiet Man

"You see those people? Half of them fresh off the boat from Europe, but they'll survive and you know why? Because they're willing to change their ways. If the Indians want to survive they'll have to change their ways, too", How The West Was Won

(and 400 years of American history distilled into one line, I might add)

Trooper:

There's a lot of aggression in those picks, neighbor.

"On the Waterfront" is a marvelously written film. I've quoted Fr. Barry's "sermon on the docks" once or twice on Good Friday.

Harry Lime: "Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly."

I needed to look up passion for another thread.
-showing or caused by strong feelings or a strong belief. Synonyms: intense, impassioned, ardent, fervent, vehement, heated, emotional, heartfelt, eager, excited, animated, spirited, energetic, fervid, frenzied, fiery, wild, consuming, violent;
-showing or caused by intense feelings of sexual love. Synonyms: amorous, ardent, hot-blooded, aroused, loving, sexy, sensual, erotic, lustful;

Believe it or not, being hit on the hands and head with wooden sticks by older women who were not only passionately committed to a black and white world view as well as experienced in sexual repression and redirection, but also fully draped in yards of black and white while berating, correcting, judging and appropriately or inappropriately punishing young boys for being bad, sassy, defiant, foolish, inattentive, wrong or trouble, can definitely cause passion to rise up as a response. Anger too.

It was passion that kept the Italians from going cuckoo. Great love and great suffering are the two great motivators for change and they both open the door of creative expression.

I'm guessing those Italians under the Borgias had both.
