One of those commentators was Ann Althouse.
If you want to mock or criticize Obama here, I think the more sophisticated speculation not that he's revealed he's subservient and pusillanimous, but that this is misogyny or male chauvinism. Obama is using his wife — both as a stereotypical woman and as the caricature of her that we see in the media — to make points with another man. Michelle Obama is not there. It's a remark about her behind her back. She's not named, but called "my wife." And she's scary. He's not actually scared, just tapping an old sexist mindset...Back to the Daily Caller article.
The president said he hasn’t had a cigarette “probably six years,” but according to multiple well documented news reports he was still smoking as of at least late 2009 or early 2010."
Despite his claim to having had a cigarette in six years, Obama had one at least as recently as February 2010, according to Dr. Jeffrey Kuhlman, who performed a physical and who was quoted in the New York Times on February 28, 2010."
“I’ve said before that as a former smoker I constantly struggle with it. Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I a daily smoker, a constant smoker? No,” he said at a press conference in 2009. “I don’t do it in front of my kids,” the president argued. “I don’t do it in front of my family. And, you know, I would say that I am 95 percent cured. But there are times where…There are times where I mess up.”

He lies about a lot of things and he does it without a care in the world.
One of the characteristics of a sociopath.
I was the Vid eee- oh!
What doesn't he lie about?
I don't mind his human failings at all. This is a weak attempt to memorialize a "gottcha" lie.
More important lying occurred regarding Benghazi, Fast & Furious, IRS harassment, and his "Red Line" posturing.
Pollo - Exactly.
He lied about smoking. Who cares?
Once again, the media roll out the meaningless lie to help cover for the other, larger lies.
HA!!! Obama, The Onion President. Copyright me.
Once you understand that the trad-media are, in John Hinderaker’s words, “a Democratic protection racket,” it all makes sense.
Now, now. Let's not be too quick to judge. It's like one of those Comment Home math problems - does the set "probably six years" include the subset "this morning?"
I say that it does and therefore the President was not lying. So there, you haters. Science wins again.
And any Professor who would twist the President's remark into sexism and misogyny just doesn't comprehend the advanced calculus behind his brilliance. Sophisticated my ass.
Rabel wins thread
"Pathological liar tells a minor lie!
And so what?
What'll you do about it? Nothing, thats what.
Hey, Obamacare was a total lie, too.
In fact, the lies have become innumerable, added to each day by Preezy Wiggleroom.
For whom she voted, hence our current malaise.
But do talk about the misogyny behind his stupid little lie.
So who's the splooge stooge now?
I wonder if there is anything unflattering that a man can say about a women that is not considered misogyny by the someone like Althouse (a college-employed, liberal feminist)?

Is the comment about being scared of his wife still misogyny if it's true?
I read an article the other day claiming certain kinds of porn cause men to become more sexist. I clicked through to find out which classifications [mainstream? or something only Shouting Thomas has ever heard of?] have this effect only to discover there was no analysis of sexism. The study showed only that men consuming the porn in question opposed gender preferences at higher rates than non-consumers.
Further, she understood this definition of "sexism" is so thoroughly accepted by her audience she didn't even bother to argue it. It's amazing that people can go through life never encountering reality.
I am sure like most ex smokers he occasional lights up.

I think you're on safe ground with Althouse if you criticize women for having characteristics which she feels she doesn't share.
The operative word there is feels; wait a while and it could change ;)
He lied about smoking. Who cares?
And yet, you use it as evidence that he's a socipath!
You guys.
@phx: The way to be taken seriously and not be lumped together (with e.g., Sullivanists) is to stop lumping people together.
We know he has never stopped smoking weed.
But I think he has cut back on smoking crack, a bit.

bagoh, please try to keep up with the times. Your implied exclusion of flattery as misogyny is Oldspeak.
This lesson might help prevent such thoughtcrimes if the future.
That's sexist!
: D
Figures that Althouse wouldn't see the Wookie as terrifying.

Be serious. Standards don't apply to phx.
Rabel, that was a great comment at 12:40.

"And yet, you use it as evidence that he's a sociopath!"
I begin with the premise that everything Obama says is a lie, part of a lie, or in service to a lie.
I assumed then that he was lying about not smoking.
My comment was that the minor lie about smoking is meaningless in the whole of his existence, just one more falsity on the mountain of mendacity that is Obama.
I used it as evidence of nothing.
Is he a sociopath, clinically? Dunno.
He is a malignant narcissist and a pathological liar. Whether he is a sociopath is uncertain, much as that word has been overused.
But do talk about the misogyny behind his stupid little lie.

Reggie Love? (NTTAWWT)
And does anyone doubt that Michelle is a bigger harpy at home than she is in public?
[mainstream? or something only Shouting Thomas has ever heard of?]
Hey, I think I resent that! I think....

Like having non-Hobbity feet? (Since Trooper's out of action, I feel I need to pick up the slack a little.)
And does anyone doubt that Michelle is a bigger harpy at home than she is in public?
I really try not to think of such things. Although I view it (upon quick reflection) that at home she is willing to use stoney silence as a very blunt weapon with her husband.
I avoid thinking of her whenever possible. But hubby brought up her mad harpiness skillz, so I am obliging him.
Now tell me the truth, Pogo. Are you married to AprilApple?
Who cares if the President smoked or not. Did you hear Arian Foster took money when playing college ball? Johnny Manzeil should be stripped of his Heisman for the plague he started. This is important stuff! Obama and the UN, not so much.
Lurch signed a UN gun ban treaty! But how about that Miley Cyrus, am I right?
Miley Cyrus is a washboard!
"What doesn't he lie about"?
Methadras has a thread winner!
"Figures that Althouse wouldn't see the Wookie as terrifying."
Sorry Methadras but upon further reading, I have to say Ricpic wins with this great comment!
Hell, my whole comment here is chauvinistic misogynistic, and so I'll just shut up now. I'm sorry, dear.
Good! and take out the garbage too,if you know what's good for you.
I didn't take Obama's remark/lie as a misogynist type of statement. Between married people that I know, it is always a running joke about the wife being the boss. "Uh oh...here comes the boss" When asked if the couple can go to an event, hubby usually says something like "I'll have to as the boss". Another common thing is that the man refers to his wife as "My bride" or "The bride" Nothing belittling about either. Generally, it is just good natured kidding around with affection between spouses.
And does anyone doubt that Michelle is a bigger harpy at home than she is in public?
Nope. It isn't sexist or misogynistic either. It is just observing human nature that some people are just plain nasty and mean.
"Are you married to AprilApple?"
I should be so lucky.
No, I married from the fall apple harvest, a Red Delicious.
Once again, everything Barack Obama says has an expiration date.
Some are just closer to the current date than others.
(thank you, George Orwell)
No, I married from the fall apple harvest, a Red Delicious.
Respect old warrior.
It's true that the only standards that I apply to myself are the ones that I choose to apply to myself. I also accept the full responsibility for those standards. I also believe in transparency: I make myself accountable for them or answerable to any person of good will who would hold me to account.
I don't owe anything to anyone who is openly hostile to me. And nobody owes me a thing, no matter who they are.
That's where my relatively transparent standards begin.

It's funny he thinks openly embracing his hypocrisy is exculpatory.
I gave up cigarettes about twenty years ago. It's a tough habit to break, but I did it. I'm not widely famous for my character or self discipline, but apparently I have more than Obama. That's disturbing to think about.
