What we have here is a real mama's boy. And the mother's behavior and what she says is odd.
"I would die for you," what an odd thing to say to your son who is proving that by his actions, by putting his life on the line for everyone inside the busses. His joy is unspeakable while her reaction is all the "eh, here's you again. Grow up already." Help me understand this.

There is a weird mother son dynamic in Arab culture.
Still, most parents would die for their children.
Or eight cousins.
"Let me smell you, my dear."
Ain't that the truth when we encounter a long lost loved one.
Very touching. Nothing better that a son who adores him mom.
Apparently the stress of war has overridden cultural expectations.

You can say that again. This is a typical thing that both mothers and father say to their children in times of great stress. Why? It is like a soothing balm to say the words in arab culture. However, the momma's boy syndrome in many of these old world cultures like arab culture and indian culture are downright epidemically disastrous. You have whole swaths of men that are infantalized until marriage and beyond. Ridiculous.
Well, it's different, that's for sure. I'm thinking she was embarrassed for him, for his outpouring of emotions, was trying somehow to turn the cards around. Alien to us, me anyway.
What's wrong with blogger comments, something for sure.
