For those who might not know it, black bears really like "people habitats"...it's just the people they sometimes don't care for much.
Best method to avoid "issues" is to back away and let them be...since even in wilderness areas you can walk up on them within a few feet accidentally...they don't seem to make warning noises like Griz does. They'll be as surprised as you are, and there's the risk...so promptly back off and they'll relax. Unless just in one of those "bearish anger" moods...rare in black bears, but not impossible. Enjoy. :-)
Can anyone tell I like critters better than I do most people?
April Apple....gross and never mind milk is among the most prolific of bacteria sponsors if exposed to it...e.g., someone's nasty butt, and maybe even the lady parts. Ewwww....

Attracts flamingos, and they're proper bastards to evict.
You guys got black bears down there in Florida? If so, plan on a few in that fence...that stuff is like candy to them :-))
See what I mean?
Wait a minute.
Is that to keep the fruits out?
Like the fence they want to build in Texas to keep the Mexicans out?
How is that even legal?
Add some nut trees, and you could call it California.
What a tutti frutti place this is. We have Lem with his fruit fence, Eric the fruit bat, Titus the fruit, and Meade the fruitcake.
Is that rude? If so, my apologies to Titus.
Nice job Chip.
I don't know about black bears.
Ask Titus.
He likes them.
Nice fence.
We've been looking at homes in Florida and one of the things we keep hearing is "the HOA doesn't allow fruit or avocado trees" in the development.
The reason give is that the fallen fruits attract rats, and rats are usually not considered a feature of nice neighborhood.
So, Lem, keep your eyes peeled for politicians.
Will do Hazman.
Hedgerow.
In a millennium, it'll stop the tanks.
Uh, Lem...Florida has black bears ... so if that fine berry hedge is near you, expect a visit :-)
