This is the second time in recent weeks that a reference book has equated a negative quality with conservatism. Earlier this month, the Daily Caller found that both theOxford English and Merriam-Webster dictionaries included “right-wing” and “conservatism,” respectively, in their definitions of “bigotry.”

To be fair, the traditional role of conservatism is to stop change - to stand athwart history yelling stop.
Obstructionist! The traditional role of conservatism is to stop progressivism (or whatever statism is calling itself today), not "history" or "change."
All those conservatives are extremely extreme! Plus, they don't have ARM's shallow sophistication!!
Somebody who was actually interested in being fair would quote accurately and in context.
It's another step forward in the Gramscian Long March, guys.
Those poor Brits. Only two political parties, both obstructionist.
To be fair, maybe we should look up "hypocrite" and "idiot" in the thesaurus and see if the terms "left-winger," leftist, and Labor appear as synonyms.
Isn't the whole idea about those who aren't the political party in power, try to be obstructionists?
Or, did I miss something? When Bush was president, didn't those whose political party that wasn't in power, try to be obstructionists?
Back then it was called "dissent" and it was "patriotic."
My favorite for left-winger is "insurrectionist."
Stop bitching, righties. When the Dems obstruct entitlement reform, they're just being conservative. You should appreciate the display of cooperation.
Is this the same group that complains about the permanently offended?
When all those Lefties were against Reagan taking down the Soviet bloc, they weren't obstructionists?

It's called showing good sense.
TheTrollWhoGetsCranky assumes change is always good.

Surprise!
I guess that proves the Narzis really were left-wingers.
Left is gauche, right is adroit.
When Dems stop tax reform they are being rightists?
Hey righties, stop obstructing progressives on their march backward to failed 19th century ideologies.
Hundreds of laws passed by the House of Representatives don't make it beyond Harry Reid's obstruction.
When rightists obstruct - it's bad.
When leftists obstruct - it's happy fun time with lollipops, free ice cream and unicorns.

The Left is sinister.
It's the status quo vs. change, statics vs. dynamics, and structure vs. reactivity. It's turtles all the way up and down. Can't have one without the other.

Boy, not this lefty. I was born to struggle.
As rcommal adroitly predicted in these web pages some time ago (or so I recall) -- it will be Ted Cruz vs. Elizabeth Warren in 2016.
A synonym for corrupt?
A synonym for sinister?

I think it's a good time to bring what a great success Obamacare is proving to be.
"... it will be Ted Cruz vs. Elizabeth Warren in 2016."
Warren would win of course, we're too far gone.
But, lazy as I am, is Cruz qualified?
Well hell, I looked it up anyway. Win by technicality. Same way as our present occupier, though much better documented.
Obamacare is fantastic if you like higher insurance prices, decreased access to doctors and specialists and fraud.
On paper, Obamacare is amazing. Nancy Pelosi insists, so it must be true.
"taxpayer-subsidized health insurance"
Single payer in a nutshell. We have single payer. I have no idea why leftists keep whining about.
We are there. Single payer is the law of the land. Tax payer subsidized health care is single payer.
"I think it's a good time to bring what a great success Obamacare is proving to be."
Come on, ARM. Are you serious.
You would need a shitload of peer reviewed studies to convince me of that assertion.
"To be fair, the traditional role of conservatism is to stop change"
Oh, bullshit.
It is to stop deleterious change, to give a vote to tradition, the democracy of the dead, to recognize the Gods of the Copybook Headings.
Obamacare has been a great success if your goal was to replace full-time with part-time work.
OTOH, if you wanted to reduce people's reliance on ERs, or insure the "50 million" uninsured, it's a "success" on the order of IT at the IRS.
Watch how this reverses after the next election puts someone in the White House with an "R" after his name. Even if nothing else changes, that will be enough to change the virtue of "dissent", "obstructionism", "patriotism", "insurrection", and even "treason". Or if you can't wait for that, just go back to 2005 or so and review.
Leftism is more destructive to a person's memory than a fat blunt.
Thank Merriam that quote marks still mean the same thing.
I think I am going to peel the "Coexist" sticker off my Prius bumper and apply "He's Not My President", "Endless/This War", "Dissent etc.", "Don't Blame Me, etc.", and all the other commie stickers that "progressives so loved right up until the moment that Hope Changed to bullshit.
