My All Time Fielding Team ....Catcher
It wasn't even close as I have to go with Johnny Bench. He was an unbelievable backstop. I saw him throw out a lot of guys and he nursed a shitty pitching staff into the series with the Big Red Machine.
I could throw out some other great catchers like Pudge or Andy Etchebarren or even Jerry Grote but Bench is the Gold Standard.
I do however acknowledge that Mike Piazza holds the record for getting hit in the face with balls off the field.
Still Johnny Bench is the man.

Agreed.
He was the benchmark.
Made me laugh.

Do over! Do over!
*benches chick*
In the face of levity, something larger than a baseball is currently being pitched, missed, hit and caught.
The gravity of the destructive gaming and political positioning currently taking place in our state and nation right now has moved me beyond levity and the ability to engage in sly jokes and puns. If I had to put a word to what I'm experiencing I'd say overwhelm.
On Saturday night, I watched what began as local TV news coverage of the peaceful protest held in Grand Rapids, MI, into seven hours of live coverage showing deliberate and malicious acts of vandalism and wanton destruction that started after the protest and went on until 4AM, as small bands of perpetrators went from building to building smashing in windows with street signs (removed at the base with tools?) shovels and baseball bats. Five police cars parked in a row were set aflame. While they were burning, one of the "protesters" walked out to the middle of the street, set down a case of what looked to be a dozen 4"-5" diameter shell fireworks and attempted to light them off. Given the cost of shells that size, with no immediate availability to obtain them as loot in that area, it looked as if they were part of the "tools" and supplies" brought to the event by the band of organizers who split off from the peaceful protest and headed toward the police station.
The events started peacefully on Saturday evening when a protest brought out thousands of people who rallied against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd's death. But as the crowds thinned, the tensions escalated and violence broke out. Seven police cars were burned overnight, five from Wyoming and two from Grand Rapids. ity officials said there were no serious injuries to members of the community or law enforcement. However, 100 businesses were impacted by damage. In addition to the car fires, there were three structure fires and several dumpster fires.
The Grand Rapids Police Department was assisted by the Kent County Sheriff's Office, Michigan State Police and Wyoming Police to quell the violence and secure the streets. Law enforcement addressed the riots with an advancing barricade.
"I know there are questions about why we didn't have more officers more aggressively respond to some of the violators and there are reasons. Last night, one of the first places we were not prepared for the march, the police department headquarters was under attack," said Grand Rapids City Manager Mark Washington.
It's getting ugly in some places, MamaM. In Omaha a 22 yr old black guy who some of the kids are claiming is a Crip was shot and killed by a bar owner who was trying to stop him from smashing his windows. He told the gang that he was armed but they must have thought he was too scared to shoot. First they attacked his 60+ yr old father then they got the bar owner on the ground and began to beat him. Fearing for his life he shot him. It turns out the Crip was carrying a gun, too, but must have thought he didn't need it.
Obviously the protesters are going to say their guy was murdered but it's surprising how many liberals are afraid to acknowledge what really happened. The Crip's father was on TV demanding justice (meaning money) and supposedly has already pulled in $100,000 in donations. My girl friend's restaurant was supposed to reopen yesterday but cancelled out because of the curfew and the fact that the restaurant is real close to the bar where the guy was killed. Now she's waiting to see if she'll be working today. She's a black liberal who's getting a little more redneck every day this bullshit protest goes on and messes up the lives of people who want to get back to work.
