I'm glad you posted this because it allows me to point out something odd I noticed for the first time last week. I was looking through the channel listings and I saw Kolchak: The Night Stalker, a silly but entertaining show from the early 70's starring Davin McGavin, was coming on. I taped it and watched it later.
The odd thing was that as I listened to McGavin talk I kept hearing something familiar in his voice that I couldn't put a finger on. Then it hit me - Shatner. He sounds just like Shatner. Not the delivery or the accent but the voice itself - "timbre" might be the right word. The more I listened the more obvious it became. As if they were brothers raised by the same parents.
Here's a link to the series if anyone with a better ear has a lot of free time to devote to investigating my observation.
Ah indeed! As much as I appreciate the push that comes along with speculations, lies, provocations and clueless wonderings, posts and comments like these bring forth a double sigh, in addition to causing me to take note and comment. Which might actually fit the Larger and More General goal of serving up enough hooks and drama to cause others to notice and comment. While I don't mind a sharp edge, I'm not a fan of mean.
Once again, Google provides the clues need to finish the Meanword Puzzle:
At 10:15PM Shatner returned home from visiting his oldest daughter, Leslie, in nearby Orange County. He found the house he shared with his wife since their 1997 marriage unexpectedly empty. But within minutes, to his horror, he saw Nerine, 40, a former Ford model, lying naked and unconscious at the bottom of their pool. Final autopsy results show that Nerine had been drinking heavily and taking sleeping pills the night she died in the swimming pool of her Studio City home.
The former model and aspiring actress, who had two drunk-driving convictions and had been treated several times for alcoholism, had a blood alcohol level of .27 percent, more than three times the legal limit for driving, according to autopsy results released Tuesday.
Authorities believe Nerine Shatner dove into her swimming pool, slammed her head on the pool bottom and drowned. The autopsy report said she had bruises on her face and two cracked neck vertebrae consistent with banging her head on the pool bottom.
If his name was Jamal or Willie I think the investigation would be a whole lot different. That Holywood fixer guy was involved in the cover up. The guy who was the model for Ray Donnavan.
I am always suspicious when an inconvenient wife ends up dead.

It is hard to raise a kid there. Mars, Hollywood Hills, whatever...
That was mean.

Zounds, I never knew that about Shatner. How certain are people of this? Robert Blake probably killed his wife or hired it out.
What is the name of the show that starred a priest in the ghetto?
It's pure speculation and it's mean. No charges ever filed. Drugs were found in her system. Accidental drowning.
IN CONTRAST, Robert Blake was tried for murder and acquitted but he lost the civil wrongful death suit brought by his three children.
Ah. Thanks, Amartel.
Mean is how we roll.

Rabel, I get your drift and catch the similarity, but for me it's as much the rhythm, or pauses, of his voice. If not more.
Timbre depends on the relative strengths of the components of different frequencies, which are determined by resonance.

Could that be in the same family as rhythms and pauses? Or a different duck?
Pointing out something one notices can lead to drift or cause a comment section to hmmmm!
Robert Wagner. Robert Blake. William Shatner. Patton Oswald.
Birds of a feather?
Or just poor misunderstood rich Hollywood Celebrities?
Birds of a feather?
The men listed, or the wives who died?
Poor, rich and misunderstood aren't the adjectives I'd pick.
Listing Shatner with Wagner and Blake as if their situations were the same is dirty pool.
Ya think?

I am funny that way.
Plus the pool was already dirty with a dead wife floating in it. Just saying.
