Driving without a portable device in your hand. Or for that matter, driver's licenses used to be difficult to obtain, and it was expected that not everyone would be able to obtain one.

Meanwhile in Sri Lanka; the death toll is up to 30 people crushed when a mountain of trash collapsed onto a nearby neighborhood. I think it is less about time frame and more about just how convenient life is in a 1st world country than other places on the planet.
