"Nunes steps aside from Russia probe"

Via Drudge:  House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) will temporarily step aside from an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including interactions between Moscow and the Trump campaign.

The move comes as the House Ethics Committee announced that it is investigating allegations that Nunes may have mishandled classified information. With the Ethics Committee now formally involved in the dispute, Nunes could no longer oversee the Russia probe, although he will remain in place as chairman of the Intelligence Committee.

The Intelligence Committee's Russia investigation will be taken over by Reps. Michael Conaway (R-Texas), Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and Tom Rooney (R-Fla.).

In a statement, Nunes blamed complaints filed with the Office of Congressional Ethics over his decision to brief President Donald Trump on intelligence intercepts of conversations between Trump campaign aide and Russian officials during the election.

“Several left-wing activist groups have filed accusations against me with the Office of Congressional Ethics," Nunes said in a statement Thursday. "The charges are entirely false and politically motivated, and are being leveled just as the American people are beginning to learn the truth about the improper unmasking of the identities of U.S. citizens and other abuses of power."

SOP for the Lefties.

If it was the other way around, any Lefty would have brazened it out.

It may well be, however, that this has gone far enough the Left can't discredit it.

Why does the GOP let these proggy commie liars walk all over them?

Nunes should have told them to fuck off.

Preemptive surrender, the Republican hallmark. Looks like it was Ryan who "advised" Nunes to cave to allegations of impropriety...or something.

Democrats caught in another Rice lie - GOP surrenders.

It's obvious Trump doesn't have enough people working for him yet. How is it that briefing a president about intelligence that should be available to him is unethical?

We had Rice spying on her bosses political rivals but Nunes did something wrong?

Valid points, but, on a happier note, McConnell has nuked Chuckie.

Republicans act like losers. Republicans are basically the French.

Nuenes is another GOPe pussy.

I think it is good idea that he is out. Maybe Trey Gowdy has some balls and will push it through.

I heard that Paul Ryan was the one that pulled the trigger on Nunes because he told Ryan the leak came from a "whistleblower" not "the white house." I say embrace the power of "and."
Or "at."
Anyway.
The Dems all hate each other too but they have the basic common sense to not fight in public and/or step on their own dicks when they're winning. The GOP are not pack animals, I guess.
That's the best spin I can put on it.

Agree with Troop, somewhat. I do think this appears like the typical Republican weakness of caving. However, I think Trey Gowdy is more a pitbull, and seeing that he is a replacement, this is probably a good idea.
