Mark Levin who is no big fan of Trump actually said that the God Emperor did the right thing by walking away from the deal. Per Breitbart:
"Friday on his nationally syndicated radio show, conservative talker Mark Levin made the case that President Donald Trump’s reaction to House Speaker Paul Ryan’s decision not to proceed with the House GOP’s legislative effort to repeal and replace Obamacare was a positive.
Levin called it “actually outstanding” and likened that leadership style to former President Dwight Eisenhower.
I thought the president’s comments today were actually outstanding,” Levin said. “And he showed enormous humility. And this guy doesn’t give up. I mean, he said OK, we’ll fight another day. In essence, he said that events will reach a point where this is going to have to be resolved. And when it reaches that point, I’m. ‘Mark, that’s not leadership.’ But it kind of is, actually. I’m not making a comparison. It is the sort of way that Dwight Eisenhower managed. When things reach a certain point, they’ll be knocking on my door. Then we’ll figure things out.”
The thing is that the art of compromise has been lost. Ike dealt with LBJ as the Senate Majority Leader. There wasn't a bigger prick than LBJ. Nobody more partisan. He makes Schumer look like the putz he was. Still Ike was able to get things through the Congress. Big things. By making deals. By being willing to walk away from the table and letting the deal come to him.
Trump can do the same thing. Trump needs to do the same thing.

True! I said it last week--just walk away!
He did.
That's why he won this one.
Concur. The worst thing to do is get buffaloed into a bad deal.
I'm not disagreeing, but what "big deals" did Ike make with LBJ?
Just historically curious.
During the Nixon/LBJ/Ford years the two parties often worked together to pass legislation. I'm not sure what "conservative" legislation was passed. Usually, it was Nixon/Ford or the Congressional Republicans "reaching across the aisle".
Republicans could have filibustered Civil rights, Fair Housing, Medicare, and a whole bunch of left wing legislation - but they didn't. They also supported LBJ on Vietnam. Did the Democrats support Nixon on the war?
Damage was done here, but not so much to Trump. He did lose traction in pushing his agenda, and we will all lose because of it. The biggest damage is to GOP leadership. I understand what they were thinking, but I don't know how they missed the optics to the Trump voters that gave them the WH and Congress. The big picture, the GOP sent repeal bills to Obama. That's all the GOP voters wanted them to do. They failed, because when they finally got a chance to be the majority; they acted like a minority that needed to give a little. And that's why Trump won the primary.
In the meantime; Democrats are starting to behave like the stupid party. By that, I mean they seem to constantly find ways to shoot themselves in the foot. Go ahead guys, filibuster Gorsuch. A guy you unanimously approved for his current position. It only makes it easier to enact Harry Reid's threat. Moreover, the Reid rule will be in place as Trump fills many other vacancies.
I'm not worried about Trump. I am worried that the economic recovery will be slowed.
I knew Ike (not directly, but I knew people who knew him), and Trump, you are no Ike.
I guess Bannon is a ham-fisted cunt.
Bannon disliked RyanCare more than anybody else.
If you're glad it's dead, thank him.

Republicans could have filibustered Civil rights
Um, without the Republicans, there would have been no civil rights. The Democrats were the ones who opposed it.
Ed- don't be an idiot.
Bannon threatened members of congress if they didn't support it.
Trump-Ryan-McConnell-Bannon care.
You continue to live in your alternate universe of fake-facts, koolaid and Trump-hump. I really don't care at all what you think.
House Republican shuts down Steve Bannon after being told they had 'no choice' in Trumpcare vote
"Guys, look. This is not a discussion. This is not a debate. You have no choice but to vote for this bill," Bannon reportedly said to members of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus.
But those in the Freedom Caucus weren't buying into Bannon's opening gambit. "You know, the last time someone ordered me to something, I was 18 years old. And it was my daddy. And I didn't listen to him, either," said one member of the caucus.
If that is an accurate description, Bannon is a ham-fisted cunt and a ugly twatty dictator.
It would be nice if someone actually wanted to repeal the damned monstrosity before it becomes the final unfixable, unstoppable nation-destroying entitlement program. This bill was cowardly bullshit anyway that didn't even need a new name. "Obamacare II" would have fit just fine. It wasn't lite, it wasn't new, and it certainly wasn't repeal.
and now that it's gone down in flames, Trump-humpers are re-writing reality. It's hilarious. Trump had nothing to do with it!
*the stupid, it hurts.*
I don't pretend to understand the complexities of health care. But can someone tell me why the Republicans couldn't have put simple repeal on the table? After all. we are (supposedly) a federation. There are 50 laboratories that could have come up with their own separate health care plans once the national plan was abolished. Even if California, New York and some other states continued down the socialist path most states would allow, well, freedom for patients and doctors.
I don' think you are quite being fair but I don't expect that.
President Trump did have something to do with this legislation. He trusted the Speaker. He trusted the Republican party. They had seven years to come up with a bill. President Trump signed on to it. He fought for it. He threatened people as you outlined. In the end the Republicans couldn't stand together. They couldn't pass anything. Just as they couldn't pass anything before President Trump was elected. Now they have the House, Senate and the Presidency.
President Trump needs to create his own bill. He needs to get input from the Democrats in the middle as well as Republicans. He needs to ignore the Freedom Caucus and the extreme left wing of the Democratic party (ie: the media). He needs to put forth a sensible proposal that meets the needs of the American people. If does that he will get the support of many people. Especially the people who voted for him.
The first step is to get his man in as Speaker. I don't know who that is. But I know it is not Paul Ryan. It is not McCarthy or anybody in the leadership. I would think outside the box. Really outside the box. Shake the establishment to its foundation.
You want my suggestion.
Mia Love.
