Johnny Williams, as he was known before he acquired pretensions, was a contract composer for Revue Studios (Universal's TV operation in the 50s and early 60s) and later Universal Studios for many years.

The ultimate private eye show of the 50s was, of course, "77 Sunset Strip".
Which also had Sharp suits. Skinny ties. Whiskey. Jazz. Beautiful Dames. And, of course, Holllllywood.
"Gunn" was much more noir. And you really had to be noir to get into it.
And, yes, they were better times. In many ways, the best of times, if I may wax Dickensian.
Which is probably a lot better than waxing Kardashian.
