Harry Bosch.....rocking good yarn.

I just finished season Two of Harry Bosch which is an Amazon original series. Amazon has started producing it's own content in much the same way as Netflicks. This is the second season of the dramatization of some of the novels of Michael Connelly featuring LA homicide Detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch. Season One was excellent and the second season keeps up the standard. Great production values and a gritty LA milieu add up to superior entertainment.

The key element to Harry's pysche is that his Mom was a prostitute who was murdered when he was a kid. Something he shares with real life author James Ellroy who is the definitive LA nior writer. I don't know if Connelly stole his life story but he got a lot of mileage out of it. Twenty excellent novels that will leave Amazon a lot of room to develop new series.

Amazon Prime is a great deal. For a nominal fee you get expedited shipping and tons of free streaming video. I heartily recommend it as well as this excellent detective series.

I just started watching and frankly I'm riveted. A great show, tons better than the scads of forgettable crap on network tv. Another great Amazon Prime developed show is Man in the High Castle. I'm waiting for the second season to drop. That is such a great show. Netflix just dropped the second season of Daredevil which now features The Punisher and Elektra, so yeah, I'm full up on my shows.

I concur on Amazon Prime - well worth the $99/year, even if you only use half of what it gets you. I read that they still lose money on it, but it's kind of a loss leader. I've started using Amazon more and more, and in addition to the entertainment and books, it's just great for finding out what's available out there when something comes to mind that you might want or can solve a problem for you.

Just as an example: I have a dental bridge that comes lose every couple months. I always go back to the dentist and they re-cement it for free, and they usually do it the same day I call, but it's still a hassle. So I went on Amazon and looked up the cement ("luting agents" their called). Of course they had a variety of them, so then I googled to learn which one I wanted and two days later with free shipping it was in my hands and I did it myself in about 5 minutes. The bridge has held up without loosening and is much better than what the dentist does.

Something else I love is subscribing to things like detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, etc where they deliver it to you on a schedule you set up, so you don't have to remember or lug it home from the store. It's not more expensive either, if you shop it.

Speaking of prostitution, maybe someday, Amazon Prime...?

Henry David Thoreau was not like Henry David Thoreau, but if you could read or write you would know that, you malignant viper.

Meade wrote "I'm like Henry David Thoreau and voluntary simplicity you know."

What the fuck is that even supposed to mean? One might read your bullshit and think that you are drunk off your ass already, but with that dried up slunk meat you have to deal with, who can blame you?

And how was Janesville? I see you and your Bernie Comrades were out in force there.

I just did a post on Janesville. The real action will probably be tomorrow. The protestors have threatened violence.

Funny that. I just finished Season One and am into Season Two. Not familiar with the novels, but liking this. (Isn't the opening credits video background groovy?)

I also watched The Man in the High Tower... not into revisionist / speculative history, but found it intriguing -- and confusing. Is it sci fi? Time travel? Will the questions be answered or will we be left wondering about the polar bear when it is over. (No, there is no polar bear, that was LOST.)

I think it is interesting that Amazon is producing such good quality stuff -- though I am avoiding the Mozart in the Jungle thing.

Amazon is my friend.

Better and useful reviews than Consumer Reports. (The users actually talk about stuff that is useful and important to me! How else would I know to use those papery hair nets on the pool leaf filter??)Books, eBooks, Christmas ... humor reviews -- better than sliced bread. (The banana slicer and gun safe are two of my favorites, though the Playmobile TSA set up is up there too.)

The year my mom had fallen and I was covered up as Christmas drew near, Amazon rescued Christmas.

Saves me a lot of time.

Though of course, a friend who is a heavy user says it this way: "I am Amazon's friend." ;- )

I wanted to watch "Intersteller" on Prime but could not. Four different browsers, Four different downloads and updates and demands to change each of the four. Twice. So that's eight fails right there. But actually more because some of multi-step fails. Amazon tried to help when I reported my style laptop cannot handle this particular video andt by then I've maxed out of patience with the effort and I'm unwilling to try anything else or redo any more instructions, or experience one more single frustration. For something that should happen with a single click offered. And the only way to control that at this point is full stop.

So that was that for that. Yesterday.

I have one way to watch their videos, My small laptop. It's brilliant and it works for everything but it does not work for Amazon Prime video for "Interstellar"

I'm disinclined to try another Amazon Prime video again.

Amazon Prime, great. Amazon video, eh. My attitude is FIX IT, Bitches.

So to straighten my thoughts back to pleasure I must change the subject off discouraging Amazon prime videos not playing on Mac Air after much trying to this terribly clever crossword theme.

What do these three theme entries have in common? The fourth theme entry answers the question and makes solving the previous three easier. The puzzle was published on Thursday, the most difficult and best day of the week for themed puzzles. First the clues:

1) Internal-combustion device
2) Author of American psycho
3) Loser of a staring contest
4) Unfeeling nature ... or a literal hint to [the previous 3]

1) piston engine
2) Bret Easton Ellis
3) first one to blink
4) heart of stone.

Get it? Huh? Huh? Did you get it? Huh? Huh? Huh? Did you get it? Did you get it? Huh? *poke* Did you get it? *poke, poke, poke*

The word "stone" is in the middle of the first three answers. When the answer's words are pushed together. Ignoring the breaks. The word "stone" appears. It's trickery! Possible only in crosswords. Of the sort that drives beginners insane because even when it's done they cannot see it, and conversely, delights experts because they need stuff like this to feel alive, to them, without this, then it's like filling out another doctor's office form.

Chip -- it's your punishment for owning a Mac Air.

(My sister owns a Mac Air and I think throws stuff off it through Chrome to her TV screen? But that may be her iPad. I dunno. She's an Apple geek with lots of toys.)

Interstellar, mmm?

Amazon Prime is the best. Being in the country, with limited local shopping, our choices are to wait until we can go to the "big" city to buy what we need. Usually we go every couple of months and really load up.

NOW with Amazon Prime, we can just get on line and order and ....TA DAH....in a couple of days there it is. Amazon must be really losing money on us when it comes to shipping. Printer ink, vitamins, supplements, specialty food ingredients like MSG, Agave sweetener, bed sheets, hair products, copy paper, you name it we've likely bought it.

Hubby needed to replace some toilets for clients. Our local hardware store didn't have them but could order a different brand. Going to Amazon we found the ones the clients wanted at half the price of retail!! and FREE shipping. Toilets are really heavy. So we ordered 4 and got them in the UPS truck in a few days. I think the UPS guy was cussing us out even though we helped him unload them.

Since getting a Roku box, subscribing to Amazon and Netflix, our viewing choices are sublimely better. I remember when we only had 3 channels and maybe PBS if you were in an area where you could get good reception. Now...with the libraries of movies, tv shows and original content...it is absolutely amazing!

Bosch is a great series. I'm about to start on season 2 next. We stopped watching House of Cards....(netflix) for now because it is too much like this real campaign season. I'm depressed enough about politics.

Just put Third Rock from the Sun in our queue. Always good for a laugh and so politically incorrect for today's pansy standards. LOL.

I aslo highly recommend Fortitude on Amazon Prime and Happy Valley on Netflicks. Both excellent shows.
