The White House is “in the final stages of drafting a plan to safely and responsibly close the prison at Guantanamo Bay,” spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters during a Wednesday briefing.Apparently we are going back to pre-9/11 ante, of trying terrorists in American courts. Presumably affording them all the rights and privileges of American citizens.
The closure of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay has been a goal of President Barack Obama since his first days in office. In January 2009, Obama signed a directive ordering the detention facility closed within a year, but opposition rose over the ensuing months and eventually scuttled his plans. Earlier this year, Obama expressed regret over not simply closing the facility at once.

Why try them at all. Can't terrorists be released into our sanctuary cities? For the common good?

I say try them and put them in high security Federal prison - general population. I think they would find that a lot less enjoyable than Guantanamo. If they escape, we can shoot them. I really don't see the downside.
At this juncture, I'm all for a president Biden succession if you know what I mean.

And as a nod to his Cuban fidelities, Obama will attempt to cede the whole base back to Cuba as an apology for the Spanish American war.

My younger brother asked me if I have an opinion on Ukraine.
His wife is Ukrainian. It's a logical question but he has no interest in such thing. When we have talked about politics it is clear right off that he hasn't a clue about anything political near or far so in that sense a very odd question to toss out.
I admire Victor David Hanson. Never hesitate reading his stuff. He's impressive because he's got his supportive details down.

I answered by placing blame squarely on Obama withdrawing American power from global arenas creating multiple vacuums that are instantly filled by despots, dictators, power-hungry forces. Weakness is sensed and pounced upon. I illustrated with a global sweep, baltic, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Philippines, Taiwan, and Japan, China, Russia.
You would consider it regular conversation. I spaced that he does not. He asked I answered.
He wrote back, Holy shit that's a lot of information. (It was only two paragraphs. I held back. I know he's not that interested, he asked about Ukraine specifically and I used it traduce Obama and all supporting Democrats)
Then just now I read Victor Davis Hanson linked from Insty, Obama's Dangerous Rhetoric, and I'll be damned if his fifth from last paragraph is nearly exactly what I had just told my brother to my brother's astonishment with the depth and breadth of my grasp.
See? He's rubbing off. It's like osmosis. Except he has a lot better details.
I can show you the letter I wrote him a few days ago, just tossed it off all pre-analyzed, mine without supporting details, and you'd see how closely they match.
