Faking Bad Update

This is a summer foo foo drink. A co-worker made up the recipe. She uses frozen mango chunks instead of ice. I made a fake version (pictured). This one is destined for retail display.

Recipe

Fill tall glass with frozen mango chunks
3/4 oz Passion fruit Malibu Rum
3/4 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Grapefruit juice
Fill to top with sparkling water

Build and stir

I made the mango chunks using Sculpey. Here is what they looked like before baking and painting:

The problem with this drink is that the mango chunks can't be reused and must be eaten or tossed. And who wants just one of a really yummy drink? The solution is to eat your way to the bottom and then demand new chunks for the second round.

I did that before, make ice cubes from juice, but not from fruit chunks.

Here's how it worked, the frozen juice chunks no wait.

No frozen fruit chunks.

Although that sounds very good.

Just frozen concentrated fruit drink and regular ice cubes run through a blender to a sno cone consistency. This is a summer rum dinger cooler type girlie drink. The kind I like.

The fruit can be puréed then frozen as cubes.

I have the best silicone cube makers that makes perfect cubes. A friend said he didn't like them because they self-destructed and it occurred to me later he's the neurotic type that would probably run them through the dishwasher. I don't. I don't clean them at all. No soap no nut'n. For the most part, but certainly no dishwasher. Why? Because he said his two were ruined. That's why. See? Circular reasoning there.

Know what? I've become a bit cranky. Another site I keep free of advertisements. It's like a scrapbook. It's actually been very useful as such. The thing is, I saw a video years ago when YouTube first came out of a lad who photographed everything he ate for a whole year and I thought several things at once. The video had a big impact on me. First Awesome! Then, I felt pity most of all. Deep pity. All that fast food one after the other in continuous stream. Obviously a student so I was cast back to my student days and compared experiences and the pity I felt was bottomless.

I also thought, well, I think I can do better than that but I don't know if I can keep it up.

So that's how that whole thing started.

And after years of this there are still no ads although it would be easy enough and sensible enough and reasonable enough to just do it. It's a thing. A conceit.

So along the way people drop the loveliest comments at first disconnected to content and with links to commercial sites. They're dropping ads in comments, buy this, buy that, where I don't have ad up there with all original content and it pisses me off. So I disappear them. Tonight I read the loveliest comment addressing the content directly with two links to her non-food related site, so no, Miss Taiwan person you cannot drop your links in my comments no matter how touching. Because I'm a crank.

Eating the fruit in a drink makes the drink slightly less gay. The only drink I consume w/ fruit is a Negroni. And, that is not a gay drink. The orange slice is important and should be consumed.

That's really cool chick is!

Of course my favorite will always be the Guinness one you did.

@Nick: I'm "researching" the color of the negroni right now--seeing if I can make a fake one.

What is the traditional glassware used?

The color of the negroni is actually pretty easy--it's just the color of red wine diluted a bit with colorless gin and then bright red Campari.
