The Independent: Seth Rogen 'horrified' at suggestion his work inspired mass murderer's shooting rampage

"Seth Rogen has expressed his outrage at an article that suggested films he has starred in inspired mass murderer Elliot Rodger to go on a shooting rampage in California against women over the weekend."
Ann Hornaday, a film critic for the Washington Post, pin-pointed the work of the actor and famed comedy director Judd Apatow as possible motivation for the killing spree, which ended the lives of six young people and injured 13 more.

She wrote that “mass entertainment has been overwhelmingly controlled by white men, whose escapist fantasies so often revolve around vigilantism and sexual wish-fulfilment (often, if not always, featuring a steady through-line of casual misogyny).”
Seth Rogen
“How many students watch outsized frat-boy fantasies like Bad Neighbours and feel, as Rodger did, unjustly shut-out of college life that should be full of ‘sex and fun and pleasure’?” she continued. (read more)

Others at stuff.co.nz argue that Mental Illness, not Misogyny, made Elliot Rodger kill.

"What to make of a disturbed young man who rants about killing women in revenge for them not having sex with him, who then murders two, as well as four men?"
There's not much to like about Elliot Rodger - entitled, self-pitying, vain, insecure, histrionic, materialistic, racist, boastful and ungrateful - yet it's difficult for any of us to judge how many of these attributes arose from mental health issues or were simply the result of a nasty little mind. Our knowledge of him is incomplete...

Much has been made of Rodger's misogyny, yet he stabbed these three Asian men to death and mutilated their bodies. Think about the sort of mind needed to do something like that, then move calmly on to your next victims? Ask yourself if they're the actions of a sane man? (read more)
What do you believe was the cause of the murderous rampage, misogyny, mental illness, both?

Nonsense.

This is obviously the movie to blame.

Beats me. The question I have is - why is Seth Rogen a Major Motion Picture Star. Has no one seen The Green Hornet?

I have a similar question about Jack Black.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

I like Seth Rogen in small doses. He can't carry a movie, but is good in supporting roles, and seems like way less of a libtard douchebag than most people in Hollywood.

I am 100% positive that the nutcase closet case who murdered those people was not driven to it by either Seth Rogen or Judd Apatow.

I am equally positive that the film reviewer who suggested it is a rotten cunt with no redeeming value to society.

They are the same thing, woman haters and mental illness. Same with man haters and race baiters. All reactionary emotion and impulse and no thinking. All collective guilt and no individual responsibility.

Indulging in an orgy of social blaming ("white men," Hollywood, "gun culture") only serves to create an atmosphere that encourages the mentally ill to feel free to live out their sick fantasies, secure in the knowledge that their crimes will later be excused or at least explained in an excusing way by Experts. The media never examines in depth the real thread that runs through these mass killings - mental illness. Tens of millions own guns, view movies and videos and video games, and are white and male but do not do these things. But all must pay with blame and condemnation and further inroads into individual civil rights because addressing the real problem would be too difficult. For the Experts.

Aridog said...

Let me be v-e-r-y clear on this subject. Who gives a fuck about Seth Rogen? Anyone you know know him? Name them.

Next, why is the Elliot Roger murderous rampage more nationally significant and covered oh, ou, ah, gee whiz fuckity do da day...than the one month ago murder of 9 with 36 more wounded, 6 of them children, in Chi-fucking-ca-sucking go?

The media decides for you and me what is "romantic" amongst the weekly atrocities in almost every major urban center in the entire country. White little pin-dick loser fuckhead goes ape shit, (be ASHAMED white boys!) hates women, but kills more men than women (4:2) ...and you betcha big buddy that's what you are told is a BIG DEAL!

I am not impressed, nor do I give one rat's tiny shit bit.

The media makes the "glory" and future weasel dicks will strive to be just like ole Elliot.

The media says it is "gun crime" but needle dick the pussy virgin killed more with a knife than a gun.

Like I said...I don't care anymore.

No, it sounds more like the standard Lefty metrosexual he was failed human being. A sexless beta male who, stirred and shaken by a lethal cocktail of life circumstances, racial grievance, mental illness, and morbid narcissism that stunted his development into adulthood and compelled him to prefer morose martyrdom to active efforts at self-improvement, found it easier to blame the degree of his brow ridge tilt for his failure with women.

If that doesn't sound like your typical Occupier (or, cough, troll), nothing ever will.

So Seth feels "horrified". That's nice to know.

I just read his IMDb page - turns out I have never seen a single movie he has been in. That's good, otherwise I might have to feel horrified, too.

But do go on about your feelings, Seth - certainly someone, somewhere gives a shit about them.

And since he feels responsible for this, at least in his own self-aggrandizing narcissist way, can we deport him?

What really annoys me and makes me want to scream is this: SHOOTING RAMPAGE.

No mention that the first 3 people killed were killed with a knife. Others were killed or wounded by his BMW. Then let's ban kitchen knives and cars.

Yes. He also used a gun. Not very well either, since he seems to have been a really poor shot. Poor kid. Sucked at everything even being a mass killer.

Even so......the media wants to make this all about guns when it is exactly NOT about guns.

The cause is mental illness. Poor parenting. Bad police procedures, they were warned! Spoiled rotten kid.

Here's the deal. Crazy people do crazy things. Sometimes you just can't stop them.

I should watch it again and write up a big thing just so I can haul it out anytime someone comes with "No, Prometheus wasn't stupid, it was DEEP, you just didn't get the SYMBOLISM." And then I can say... in that case The Green Hornet was high art!

Also... Inception was better when it was called Total Recall...

Aridog, serious answer...

Violence among lower classes does not feel threatening to upper classes in the same way that a random psycho feels threatening. People express all the "right" concern, but in truth, they do not feel personally at risk. They don't deal drugs, they don't live in a dangerous neighborhood, they don't *expect* to have a drive-by happen, they aren't personally married to an abuser or drug dealer...

Yes, part of it is that the victims are brown, but even that is mostly that it's members of a community that isn't your community.

Part of it is that people assume the shooters are sane with sane motivations. Animals, maybe, but rational animals.

But something like this happens and it happens to a community that expects to be safe and it happens in a way that CAN NOT be guarded against or avoided by avoiding the bad part of town. This makes people feel insecure so they immediately want to try to figure out how to feel safe again.

chickelit said...

Could you use your highly tuned gaydar on the murderous little shit who led to this thread topic?

It's plausible that he was a repressed gay. His victims were both sexes, so he could have been lashing out at heterosexuality instead of just women. But you'll never even hear that question asked in Hollywood.

The tiny cock theory of Titus works too.

Synova....I accept your reasoning as part of the answer. Funny how really sick news, such as the beating of Steve Utash in my hometown barely made a ripple nationally. Utash was white, in a metro area where we're rather well mixed, but in Detroit it is over 8+:1 black over white. Steven Utash did not expect to be beaten to within an inch of his life, for stopping to help a kid he'd bumped with his car.

I live in a neighborhood where I am the one in 9:1 ratio, adjacent to other neighborhoods where it is 8+:1 or 7:1, etc. I am very good at situational awareness to use a fancy term for street smart.

Sorry, but I think it is more media liberal narrative at work than the who and where of it all. Media may utilize the not-expected-here concept, false as it is (none of us, black, white brown, etc wants to die, or expects to) to get started, but they go far beyond that and glorify killers which attracts more "psychopathic narcissists" and gives them a venue to seek their own aggrandizement.

Those 9 dead folks in Chicago plus the 36 wounded, including 6 children, are every bit as important as some Hollywood snot brat...except to our beloved media.

So is Steve Utash...be at least he's still alive after a month+ in ICU in an induced coma. I am still waiting for some leaders from both sides of the racial fence to address the idiocy that was the beating of Steve Utash....and get national forum for the addressing.

I am naive' I know ...not really. I know what zup.

When you grocery shop, do people ask, "would you like help with that?"

I'm asking you because I am asked that every single time without exception and it is a bit embarrassing because I am imagining myself giving no clue to needing or wanting any help at all. Yet there it is.

But today it went even further, as I was loading my truck a young and attractive and pleasant woman had just parked her car and was entering. So, busy herself with her own plans. Her shopping ahead of her. But she stopped next to me and asked, "Sir, would you like help with that?" The fourth time today.

"No thank you, I'm fine."

Departing, she turns back, cheerfully, "I like your pants!"

Back home and parked my own cart loaded to take things up, a young man was slightly ahead of me. This is where people slip through the door and go on there way hastening ahead rather than having you slow them down to join them in the elevator. But upon reaching the door, there he was waiting so that I could pass directly through. Grace that you don't always see.

Behold, the power of red pants.

These shrink to fit 501's. I recommend them. Buy several pair. They cause people around you to come out of character. Don't let the color descriptor "jester" dissuade you.

The sad thing is, there are a lot of people out there, perhaps only some people out there, who could have done something with that, people who are attracted to assholes with pixie dicks. There actually are women, and men too I suppose, who actually do prefer pixie dicks with compensating massive egos unable to manage emotionally.

Chip Ahoy ... why are younger folks always surprised a bit when some one acts with what once was common courtesy. I was taught and still act the way I was taught to open doors, for anyone nearing it with you or behind you...just do it and smile. Today I did this for a young woman with her arm obviously in a cast and she looked at me with amazement and nodded her head in acceptance. How odd that is unusual today. No she didn't have on red pants.

It never hurts to notice things however, at the same store when I'd finished shopping and checking out I noticed a Treble Clef tattoo on the lovely young woman's forearm...so I asked, what's that, with a smile. The return smile was beaming...with a short story, as she scanned me out, about she was a musician (flute, piano and guitar) and decided to fill in between real work that she couldn't teach (no patience) so she worked there. She was all of 25 maybe and very pretty...a loveliness that blossomed with that big smile.

I had a nice day, I met a nice person with a future I'm sure. And I've just gone about my day as every other day otherwise.

Writers sometimes use the device of giving villainous characters in roman a clef novels a small dick. This is libel insurance. No one wants to take possession of a small dick in a libel suit......This tactic might work in the case of assassins and mass murderers. For some of them, part of their motivation is the wish to be famous and significant. If shrinks and talking heads went on television and explained how the killer was raging against the shame of penile puniness, this might inhibit other future killers from pursuing a similar course of action. At the Tsarnaev trial, a shrink can testify that the young man was acting out his rage at having a microphallus and chronic bed wetting problems. This should be the standard explanation for every act of tabloid evil. We could thus, perhaps, avoid the conundrum of giving fame and significance to people whose lives deserve to be forgotten. Let them be remembered as minor dicked bed setters.

If Titus' view is a true window into the gay male soul, then being small-dicked is just about the worst curse -- probably even worse than being fat. So getting back to Lem's original question, I posit that Eliot Rodger was both gay and under-endowed. It's circumcisional evidence, but it explains all the facts.

"circumcisional evidence..."

I got it hand it to you... wait.

I think William has a great idea. If the media would make a giant whoop-de-do about tiny penis syndrome (whatever that is...facts are not important to national media) every time a tragedy like this one occurs...it just might discourage future ones if the notoriety will be as a pin dicked bed wetter.

If he was a closet pillow biter, I would assume it will come out when they get ahold of the little dipshits computer.

Well, I take that back, that messes with the media narrative of the privileged white male NRA member. I have no reason to believe that would come out.

Not like he is a half Asian steeped in liberal Hollywood bullshit Young Turks subscribing possible pole smoker or anything.

The media has no interest in preventing these things - their bread and butter is anti-American agitprop. This homicidal little twerp will remain a right wing nutjob in perpetuity.

Titus...for once (remind me if there's been other times) I agree with you.

"Fat" is the de rigueur bad fashion choice in the gay world. At least based upon the regular gay folk I know (and socialize with)..e.g., regular jobs, no outlandish crap, ordinary people, just like me otherwise, not fab, yada yada.

BTW..."Fab" is not Martha's Vineyard...IMO, "Fab" is the Russian River resorts near Santa Rosa, California.

And, I repeat myself, NO, Memorial Day is not a holiday. Thinking of it as such is to dishonor the dead who made our life styles possible, gay or hetero. You don't think so? Move to Afghanistan or Iraq then...and check-it-out.

Vietnam was more tolerant...check out the movie "Good Morning Vietnam!" Not very realistic in some sense, but very on the money in others.

Nobody was "vaycaying" anywhere fun, just rying to survive...some did not, THAT is what Memorial Day is all about. BTW...the day doesn't happen until Saturday...the fucking government made it last Monday for shits and giggles...as a "holiday"...the assholes just could not help themselves.

Stop hitting on Titus, Airdog. He's married.

Plus, you're not his type.

@Meade: Is that you aping Titus on your wife's blog:

"Fuck you we won"?

Here's a rerun of my Titus impression: chirbit. The actual text is neatly coiled in a little pile at Troop's.

There's not enough emotion and pompous pontificating on this thread.

But there is more here than in other quarters.

Let's give it up to the righties for giving our political discourse the reason-free, pompous emoting that it needs. Just what the nation cries out for: More emotion, less problem solving, more vengeance.

Clearly the prescription to follow for societies to become civilized.

Are you sure that needlessly insulting comment of yours was emotional enough, Xray?

It's funny how the righties think that anger and contempt aren't emotions.

As long as we don't show concern or sadness, it's all good. Only negative emotions like anger and contempt are the right ones, is what I'm hearing from Xray.

Thanks for that insight.
