Are You Exceptional?

Zodiac (n.) late 14c., from Old French zodiaque, from Latin zodiacus "zodiac," from Greek zodiakos (kyklos) "zodiac (circle)," literally "circle of little animals," from zodiaion, diminutive of zoion "animal" (see zoo).
Are you an obvious exception to what or how your sign predicts you should be?

Aries ~ from Latin aires "ram" (cf. arietare "to butt"), from a PIE root meaning "spring, jump" [more]

Taurus ~ from Latin taurus "bull, bullock, steer,"; [more]

Gemini ~ from Latin gemini (plural of adjective geminus) "twins"; [more]

Cancer ~ from Latin cancer "a crab,"... from PIE root *qarq- "to be hard" (like the shell of a crab); cf. Sanskrit karkatah "crab," karkarah "hard;" and perhaps cognate with PIE root *qar-tu- "hard, strong," source of English hard; [more]

Leo ~ from Latin leo "lion"; [more]

Virgo ~ from Latin Virgo "the virgin"; [more]

Libra ~ from Latin libra, literally "pound (lbs), balance"; [more]

Scorpio ~ from Latin scorpio (poetic scorpius) "scorpion"; [more]

Sagittarius ~ from Latin, literally "archer," properly "pertaining to arrows," from sagitta "arrow," which probably is from a pre-Latin Mediterranean language; [more]

Capricorn ~ from Latin Capricornus, literally "horned like a goat," from caper (genitive capri) "goat" (see cab) + cornu "horn" (see horn (n.)); [more]

Aquarius ~ from Latin aquarius, literally "water carrier," properly an adjective, "pertaining to water" [more]

Pisces  ~ from Latin pisces, from plural of piscis "a fish" [more]

Are You Exceptional?

No.

I take exception to that question... are we bashing ObamaCare?

Scorpio Moon and Sun with Leo rising - a bossy bitch. In the 70s I was good at doing horoscopes and always stunned that people would nod and exclaim that I had gotten them exactly right.

April Apple bait.

Hey I am a Libra with a Virgo rising.

That means I am pounding a virgin.

Sweet.

Hey I am a Libra with a Virgo rising.

Libra follows Virgo so how can Virgo be rising? You must be pounding her bass ackwards (NTTAWWT).

Somebody explain how the second sign figures in. I thought it was for people born on the cusp of a sign change.

Aren't we all? We are all children of Lake Wobegon.

No, that would be taking EXEMPTION.

So you've read it Icepick?

(I kid)

If you're on the cusp all bets are off.

Aries does account for a lot of my character.

The Blonde and i have our birthdays 1 year and 4 days apart, so she's not only into Western astrology, she also goes for the Chinese Year Of The ....

I'm the languid one, she's the hothead.

I've always considered myself to be rather like my sign, but put it down to coincidence.

Lem, I just realized which website chick had linked to. Turns out I've got mutual friends with that site's author.

As for astrology - who cares? Like chick, I'm an Aries. As is Amba, for those of you who know or remember her. Not exactly three peas in a pod.

Not exactly three peas in a pod.

Aries aren't supposed to get along well together for too long.

I get along with Annie quite well. And I only want to throttle the life out of ou about half the time, which is pretty good for a stranger. The point is, find the similarities of personality.

I don't believe in any of that Zodiac crap. I do believe in Chinese Fortune Cookies.

From last night's dinner cookie:

IT only gets better when YOU get better

Capricorn, Scorpio rising and Moon in Leo.

Someone please explain these multiple sign combos or link thereto.

Thanks.

I mean, it sounds worse than what people order at Starbucks.

chickelit said...

OK "worse than" sounds like micro-aggression. Make it "sounds like."

Sixty, if your kitchen is facing east, consider moving it to the west side of your house.

The Dude said...

My kitchen is in the southwest corner of my house. Has been since the place was built in '51. It's an American house, dammit!

Actually, this is the first house I have ever owned that has its longitudinal axis running east and west, almost exactly.

I would write that the sun shines in my back door, but these days that has a completely different meaning.

Like I go to the shop, tell the mechanic that the tranny in my truck needs work. He's like "Dude, you're the only person in the truck".

Shut up!

deborah said...

lol I know.

Actually, the best position for the kitchen is the NW, so you're not doing so badly lol

Christy said...

Chicken Little, if I remember correctly, Sun is who you are deep down. Rising/Ascendant/1st House is how others perceive you. Moon is your emotional self.

The Dude said...

I don't even use the rooms in the northern half of my house. Fuck that - they are Y*nkee rooms.

Yeah, and I don't do microaggression, either.

chickelit said...

@Christy: But that sounds like something one can tack on anytime in life. I was under the assumption that the expanded horoscope was also fixed at birth but took into account more detail.

XRay said...

@9:24, both of your assumptions are true, well, true somewhere and with some folks.

Synova said...

Well... I get to be either a Virgin or a Dragon...

Or maybe both.

Or maybe sequentially.

chickelit said...

@Synova: Isn't Libra between Virgo and Scorpio?

I'm totally misunderstanding how people determine their sign these day.

I give up.

Synova said...

Dragons are the Chinese year thing.

I'm mixed up on purpose because I like it. :)

Synova said...

I just think it's funny... you know how fun it is to be a Virgo for the 12 years of public schooling?

Uh... and by fun I mean worse than being Cancer.

And then I find out... I'm Dragon! Whoot! Happy Dance. Take that you insipid Virgin joke! Rawr!

deborah said...

lol Sixty.

chickelit said...

Synova: You sound like you suffered micro-aggression your entire schooling!

chickelit said...

Was there ever a time in American history when "virgin" wasn't a pejorative term?

XRay said...

I'm not American history, but I've never thought of "virgin" as pejorative. A challenge for sure, but never a pejorative.

CL, your natal chart is where the sun, moon and planets are when you were born. Your 1st house is what is on the horizon at the moment of your birth. My Mars and Venus are in Capricorn, for example, which means I would marry for money. I so looked forward to marrying for money. Still do. Anyhow, with the sky divided into 12 houses, in which house your planets lie also modifies your horoscope. I mean, you wouldn't respect a system of belief without a complex set of rules that can be conveniently remembered as the need arises, would you?

chickelit said...

@Christy: I guess my next question is where do I send money and my DOB to get an accurate read? ;)

The Dude said...

CL - make up some hokey self-serving shit then believe it. You will not only save on the cost of paying some charlatan to lie to you but the story you tell about yourself will at least be rooted in your own personal experience and delusions.

See, that was easy, said the Cancer with moon in Cancer and cancer creepin' up on all sides.

Imagine how fucked someone born on a ringworld or a Dyson sphere would be. (Probably only Synova will know what the Hell I'm talking about.) Not to mention the tubes and whatnot.
