In writing too small to be legible here, the photo above recites:
Better Shred Than Dead...Dick Dale has been around forever. Here he is playing on Ed Sullivan the year before The Beatles famously washed ashore:
Creed of the King of Surf Guitar.
There's no retreat in his vocabulary
and no quitting in his strings.
Here is Dick Dale a couple years ago playing an anthem standard:
I saw him play a very emotional show a few years ago at the famous "Coach House" in San Juan Capistrano. I blogged about it here.
I would like to see this American icon play the national anthem at the Superbowl halftime show instead of the usual fare. It won't happen.

Dick Dale will never play during the Super Bowl halftime show because he is unlikely to grab his crotch or expose his breasts.
That first one cuts off at 2:04 - you could tell his background was long form music - he was just getting wound up - then bam! Over.
The second is a treat.
Play it oud!
Well if you don't happen I shall be very put out... because Britain.
Fixed the typo Lem.
I really like that version of Amazing Grace.
I don't know why, but it is very disconcerting to me to see a person playing guitar left handed. Mirror image mabye?
I love Dick Dale. A real pioneer.
the year before The Beatles famously washed ashore:
This is what I have in mind when I think of how the Beatles destroyed the vibrant music scene that was just beginning to emerge.
