The old hats (left) compared to the new ones (right) |
“None of the [members] liked the idea of a universal cover for all Marines,” the internal memo noted. “The group members did not like the appearance of the Dan Daly cap on the male Marine.”

What an awesome president! (Pissed off even more yet, Marines?) #Obama wants Marines to wear 'girly' hats: http://t.co/9b7spExV3C

In 2001, Army Chief of Staff Eric Shinseki ordered the black beret worn as standard headgear army-wide, a controversial decision because it was previously reserved for the Rangers. (I)n June 2011, Army Secretary John McHugh ... proposed that the Army ditch the Black Beret in favor of the traditional Patrol Cap to be worn with the ACU. The original decision in 2001 to allow non-specialized troops to wear the coveted beret was implemented in hopes of boosting morale among regular units. This backfired however, when regular troops began complaining that the new Black Beret, taken from the US Army Rangers, was too difficult to put on with one hand, and caused excessive heat.
If they had only made sure all recruits had two good hands, this change wouldn't have been a problem.
Some humans are just dumb. This can never be avoided. Their leader is running things.
The new ones look a bit Frenchy.
I suspect Kerry had a hand in this.
This just in from the Ministry of Money Waste:
"MsnbcObamaHillaryPelosiINC has taken quick and strong action regarding this matter and also started a rigorous productive dialogue around future 'Gay hat' implementations to ensure that all Marines can have an enjoyable experience."
Just remember, the top Marine works for the Commander in Chief. I know some Marines, and if they were told to vote to change headgear, they would tell the CIC to take flying fuck, and resign. This dude? I don't know. Most of those positions are politically appointed.
I think that all Marines should be required to wear pink lingerie under their uniforms.
Garter belts and stockings, regardless of gender, or lack thereof.
The US Marines are the only US service that has not changed uniforms like chameleons in molt. In other words, they've not wasted money galore like the Army, Navy and Air Force on odd duty camouflage in bizarre colors and fruity Class A's, designed by the Pentagon Fighting Pussycats.
So by the lord frigging harry, make the Marines equally fucking fruity stupid!!
Yeah! makes sense...in a time when ranks are being thinned, money is short,by all means go some new fangled shit lid that looks like an up turned commode pail.
John....Gen Shinseki ordered the black beret to be worn in place of the traditional "overseas cap", aka "garrison cap" or "side cap" with Class A's, too, in order to stop the regular travel Class A cap being rightly called the "Cunt Cap".
Well, that's the rumor anyway :-)
PS: The hat proposal for Marines is pure bullshit, because in the days of the overseas cap or garrison cap, both male and female soldiers, of all services, wore the same basic cap.
You send much time humping a rucksack and a duffel, in and out of shipyards and airfields you quickly find the fancy covers are a crock and that fold flat "cunt cap" is pretty good.
The bigger covers got in the way of the umbrellas BHO made them hold for his tenderness.
Thanks, Aridog, for the background.
Let's be honest: ALL those hats look pretty damned silly by modern standards.
Yes, but the ones on the right side of the pic are downright asinine. And John is correct...they look French.
Marines have worn French styles before. And the proposed new COVER looks similar to the covers worn by the Marines in the WWI era.
That said, the current cover is part of the best uniform in the US and I can't believe ANY time or effort is being wasted on this. More diversity bullshit from the Affirmative Action Administration.
I beg to differ somewhat on the beret for the Army. It may have been partly for morale, but the rounded base of the beret conveniently fit the coiffed heads of female soldiers better that the "piss-cutter"/"cunt-caps" did. Don't kid yourselves, sports-fans, that move was ALSO a PC move as well. This latest?
DON'T get me started..
Thanks, Ice, I didn't know that about WWI. But the possible new hat just looks way too much like a gendarme's.
8 to 5 says I got $20 bucks on it that some little pufta whispered in someone higher ups asshole and this whole mess is here.
Are you kidding? No self-respecting fag would have the Marines change the current dress uniform- it's too hot.
This has the fingerprints of a woman all over it.
But the possible new hat just looks way too much like a gendarme's.
So were the ones in WWI, only they were all black.
At least the don't have the plume on the front, like the version from the (I believe) 1850s.
Marines wore Army uniforms with Marine distinctions until the 20th century. In fact, the current Marine dress uniform is the old Army 1872 model.
Well, they wanted to be a separate branch of service. Now they're being treated that way.
PS These look like the caps a lot of East Coast big city fire departments wear as their dress caps.
Not that ghastly, really, but not military, either.
PPS If the Marines can complain about their caps, they're doing better than the Army.
According to the Chief of Staff, Choom's sequester has left them with only 2 combat ready brigades.
I was bummed out when the Army got rid of khaki uniforms. Nothing looked better than a khaki uniform after busting starch.
It's kind of weird seeing Army guys wearing camoflage doing pedestrian thing like riding the bus or waiting in line to buy groceries.
And the camoflage doesn't work at all.
I mean, you see a guy wearing camoflage walking down a city street he's pretty easy to spot.
But of course, then again, how do I know there aren't Army guys wearing urban camoflage and I never even know they're there?
(* scratches head *)
I'm with you Aridog, except for: they've not wasted money galore like the Army, Navy and Air Force on odd duty camouflage
Actually, the Marine Corps changed BDU's to the MARPAT design and pocket layout when the other services changed to digital print camo around 2003. In fact, their digital pattern includes the eagle, globe, and anchor just to be fancy. In addition, in January of this year, the Marine Corps put out an RFP for 35,000 uniforms made of a new material that can dry faster.
So the Marine Corps does waste a little in the camo department, but I agree with the Class A's and other uniforms. I'm against the hat change. I could accept if it is only for women, but still think that is a bad idea.
