Mermaids After Midnight

This song is by the Aqua Velvets, a surf rock band from San Francisco, and it closes out their 1997 album Guitar Noir. I think they are the best thing to come out of SFO since sourdough bread and I wish I had seen them then and there.

Ah! Speaking of sourdough bread, I'm making Einkorn bread using beer to make a poolish. Let ferment for 12 to 18 hours, use the no knead method, dump in a hot cast iron Dutch oven, covered, then with lid off for the rest of the time to bake in hot oven.Oh yum, crackly crust, moist semi sour dough with beery undertones. Slathered with butter and homemade preserves ( sugar free).

I'm experimenting with low gluten ancient farro grains, Emmer, einkorn and Spelt. A good alternative to modern wheat. Not low carb, but better glycemic index.

Mermaids after Midnight, perfect music for the magical chemical dance the little yeasties are doing in the dough bowl all night.

Though I understand individual exuberance and preference I am perplexed, EPR, that you would make such a statement re bands out of SF.

Take a gander at this list,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bands_from_the_San_Francisco_Bay_Area

There is a lot of damn fine music on that list. I mean hell, I'm not even mentioning 'their' name.

Ah, love surf rock. The Ventures!

But I must second XRay. Re recent/ contemporary SF bands, no love for The Brian Jonestown Massacre? I'm a fan.

In my periodic table "women I regret not sleeping with" is close to "bands I regret not seeing".

There were so few chances of a hit, I would say they both heavy elements.

4 to 3, Red Sox took the lead on a bloop single by Mike Carp.

Carp came off the bench to push the run in.

Its a beautiful thing.

Ek is happy because it looks like he is going home before midnight.

Not so much "surf rock" as "surf smooth jazz" or something. I like the song, tho.

Re: X-ray's list -- I had no idea CCR was from the Bay Area. How about that.

"I had no idea CCR was from the Bay Area"

Surprising to me, too.

Though I once probably knew it.

Time smears, irreversibly.

"women I regret not sleeping with"

What about the obverse?

Men I'm glad I didn't sleep with?

The biker with the "I killed m mother tattoo"?

The skinny guy with strange lesions.

The bald fat guy with a damp hanky in his lapel.

Just for starters.

@Xray: CCR was from Berkeley. I said SFO, which guess is a region but I meant the City.

"We built This City"

Okay EPR. I'm in error, giving credence to Wikipedia. But is that that the only one on that list.

I don't really care about this, just pointing out that there are many entrants on the 'best of' out of SFO.

By the way I lived there circa 73-85. On the other hand I didn't get out much.

"What about it"

Nothing. Just thinking it would be an interesting counter to the conversation.

Althouse has a long post about the "philosophy of traveling".

I don't know what to make of it.
Her colleague Nina should have something to say about the "philosophy of traveling".
