2: While holding the tension of the key turn, PULL with the key hand (or assist with the knob)
If this doesn't work the lock may be mounted the opposite way, so turn the key as far as you can clockwise. The Knob does not turn, it is only for extra leverage for people too weak to pull the door open with the key.
Guc_Mal
Seriously, just pull the door back with the knob (which doesn't turn, and is not supposed to) and then twist the key all the way to the right. Its probably just stuck. Don't panic, just pull it towards you with the knob.

Stuck in a Paris apartment and cannot work the inside locks on this door.

Stuff a Gaulois in the keyhole.
Damn you, double fricking damn you, I smoked Camels and Gaulois for the best part of 50 years, before I quit altogether...and you just had to mention one of them, cigarettes with real flavor and snap[!!]...and now I want one. I really want one badly...aaggghhh!
I've spent the day trying to recover some Qdata files from 2004 using Quicken Home 2006, which doesn't recognize the Quicken 2004 format.
Anyone with any ideas, please speak up. This is a serious matter, criminally serious in fact. Dumb ass me threw away his old floppy disk Quicken software.
rhhardin is a bad man...ameliorated only by the fact he has a magnificent dog.
Surrender.
The door will understand.
The first (and only, for reasons soon to be clear) time I went to Paris, I had trouble opening the door to my room. The concierge grabbed the key away from me, muttering: Terrible Américain.
Did she ever get out?
That's a beautiful poem, rh.

Sydney, that shade of blue is the old-fashioned one that people used to paint their gliders and trellises.
Aridog-
If it would help I still have the CD for Quicken 2002 Deluxe that I'd be willing to send you. ( although I suspect that 2002 is less likely to be compatible than 2006. )
sydney, my spidy senses tell me she was shown how to use the door right off, she knew all along, but wanted Reddit attention, like this, "Lookie everybody I'm in Paris! Help me." So they did within minutes. I think there was a whole string of unhelpful comments. I only read the first three, the third said, first useful comment of the whole thread. It moved to the top. Reddit appears to be exceedingly self-referential.
Ignorance is Bliss ...Thanks very much...A CD for Quicken 2002 Delux might do the trick, since it's preceding the 2004 Quicken Database files...that 2006 Quicken cannot open for some reason. I will check the file types tomorrow morning and let you know here.
Your profile doesn't show an email. However my email is in my profile.
I will write after I check what file type 2002 used versus 2004 and 2006 Delux. The file types/names [in Quicken terms] are "Q3 DIR File, data11 QB1 file, and data11 QB2 file."
Thanks again. Watch here for what I find out.
Ignorance is Bliss ...sorry for the slow response, but we found the computer the 3.5 floppy disks were created on and were able to open them on that machine.
You idea was potentially a good one, since using various & multiple versions of Quicken to update & open files produced on older versions. Intuit-Quickens guidance tells you how.
Thank you very much, again, for your kind offer.
