Children behave...

Tommy James (b. 1947) recorded his first hit, "Hanky Panky," 50 years ago. The song was a local hit but otherwise died from lack of exposure. James and his bandmates finished high school and moved on. Two years later and hard up for cash, James released the original recording to better distribution and it climbed to #1 in the US charts in 1966.

Hanky Panky belongs to that pre-Beatles, American garage band tradition -- sort of like "Louie Louie" by The Kingsmen discussed back here.

Lem, go ahead and release your ebola post early if you want to. Just don't let it infect this thread. :)

Interesting band - I don't give them a lot of thought or credit, don't listen to them all that often, but in retrospect they certainly provided a lot of the sound track in real life in the '60s.

Riding around in old Chevies, windows down on a summer night, listening to the AM radio fade in and out due to ionospheric variability, TJ and the Shondells were there.

Thanks for posting that.

Chick, I can't believe you're not live-blogging the Project Ruway finale. I think Amanda is going to take it.

A couple of years ago a friend I have known for close to 50 years postedthis on Facebook.

I took some of the background "art" and used it in some of the products I made.

I never did stop to thank him.

I don't "watch" that dreck -- my wife and daughter do. I just overhear it. How else do you think I form my righteous opinions?

As to why they're not watching it now, they watch everything delayed. It's a way to FF through commercials.

Then you will know before them. Char's out. Char should have never been in, but she's a sweetie.

Oh, screw. Sean won. But he is excellent. Sorry, Amanda :(

Interesting tune - is it just that Tube of You version or is the bass drum really tuned incorrectly for the key that song is played in? Sounds odd to me.
