What I find remarkable, and admirable, is that (so far) the Ukrainian people have not looted and destroyed the place. Instead they are protecting from looting and turning it into a museum. At least this is what we are hearing.
Yanukovich was born into a poor family but went to university and worked for a transportation company for 2 decades before getting into politics in 1997. He was chief manager for the transportation company when he left and ran for governor of a province (?) in Ukraine. 10 years later he bought this house. Per Wikipedia, "Yanukovych acquired the Mezhyhirya estate in a former forest preserve near Kiev in 2007, according to critics through a murky series of companies and transactions. Yanukovych did not reveal the price he paid, although he called it a "very serious price".

Apparently, these aren't the days when you can secretly broker a deal with the Russians when an EU deal is in the works.

I'm pretty sure many world leaders indulge themselves this way.
Video of the digs.
Come on, it's hardly the monstrosity that Ceausescu had.

Mark Steyn is one of the few writers who discusses the incredibly profligate spending of our royal family, the First Family.
Their spending and perks are stunning.
The Clintons are interested. They have all sorts of Goldman Sachs money they'd like to unload.
