It is a tung oil based product and it is very simple to work with and dries reasonably quickly.

Drawbacks - it is expensive and even if the can is sealed there is a sufficient amount of oxygen in the can to make it go bad.

Solutions for that issue include - diluting it with some other oil-based finish, which changes the nature of the original product and fills the can, but I don't do that, using a nitrogen product to displace the air, another method I skip, or using something like marbles to raise level of finish in the can, thereby minimizing the amount of air that the product is in contact with.

I used to use things like marbles or rounded stones sold for fish tanks, but being cheap I decided to use washed gravel, and that works great. My latest can made it through the winter just fine. The fake out comes when you pick up the can - it is way heavy. I had just used it minutes previously and now I am getting a cheeseburger with tomato and jalapeño and Burger Fi sauce, I said, "Man, that wallet had better be in this backpack."

The young high energy woman behind the counter said, "I see you in here all the time. I'll give you my employee comp."

Right then I found my wallet. But how sweet. The clerk was going to buy me a cheeseburger and drink.

The whole downtown is lousy with silent stealthy somewhat hippyish pot smoker types. My block on Broadway is packed with marijuana industry related vans. Big ones. It's big business. There are some fifteen different commercial vans parked in a row on the street and the whole block is packed with people in line standing in the rain to enter a convention.

There is music playing in the opposite direction.

And all this in light rain. Slightly cold.

So after my cheeseburger with tomato and jalapeño I sauntered over to the bottle shop on the other side of the apartment building for a 12-pack of Cokes. While inside, a portion of the street crowd poured inside the shop all at once and filled the whole space now teeming with meandering new generation of pot smokers. The people generally are not fashionable. Unfashionable. Antifashionable. Mostly young. Yet still well behaved and rather nice besides.

Before this in front of my building I was admiring the gentleness of the gathering crowd when a woman who works here poked out her head and said,

"No loitering!"

The whole crowd of gathered men quietly shuffled off without a word and disappeared one direction or another into the sidewalk crowd. One guyhad a quadcopter ready to fly over the growing crowd. He was a tall young lanky lad, I'd say 6.5 thereabout and he never said a word and as he walked away I could see then he was wearing outrageously large size 18D shoes.

And i'm like,"Holy shit, how does he walk on those things without tearing up everything underfoot?" They were like two whitish bulldozers scrubbing back and forth down there.

But they all just quietly walked off without any fuss like, shrug, thud, "Scared a you."

So on the way out of the bottle shop with the 12 pack of cokes in the backpack, a young blond wet rainy-haired woman quickly hustled ahead of me measured just so to hold open the door for me even though she was not exiting herself and that did take her well away from her friends and her own business inside. Then she hustled ahead of me and held open the second door onto the stream of street side pot smoker silent revelers.

Nobody actually smoked anything. Apparently that's done elsewhere. Maybe nearby Civic Park. I don't know. There are a LOT of people walking by.

And this caused me to realize: this 420 celebration is only the beginning of something that will become much larger, I think in surprisingly short time this will be national. It's already grown considerably right here, right before my own eyes over the few previous years. It might even become a new holiday. So ...The following is too long, don't read....

So I'm living the dream. I have twin 25 yr old daughters living at home. A couple of things:

1. Houses are bigger, families are smaller. There's room at the inn.

Yes

daughter marries but continues to live (with husband/son-in-law) in part of her parents' house

Maybe, one is engaged, and the couple live upstairs; I must admit enjoying the extra hand on getting certain things fixed. He's certainly not a Pajama Boy.

2. There's more to do if you're staying in your room at Mom's.

Yes, but there's a bit more to this in a moment...

The govt policies that led to ridiculously expensive costs of college and easy loans are one of the biggest causes.

Well, we put the girls through school, so no loans, no student debt (other than the wife's when she put herself through school). Still, one daughter was smart enough to take accounting, which is a career that can be learned as a trade without college. The other studied Criminal Justice, which if not followed up with law school (and that's dubious), is a career better learned as a trade. Why these majors? Because despite college being ridiculously expensive; if someone else pays for it uncritically (as we and the government did), then nobody is paying attention to studying a major that results in equally ridiculously pay. My wife studied to be a nurse, because it pays. I studied engineering because I was to lazy to learn a trade.

I blame President Pissy.

If you stayed with me; Ed is very much correct. Not mentioned by others is insurance. By living at home, my daughters can be covered under my car insurance and health insurance thanks to President Obama. He changed the law (either by regulation pen and paper or actual law, but I think latter because it was early on when Dems held Congress) that stretched rules that said children could be covered if living at home but going to college and still dependent up to age 26. Pissy simply removed the criteria for being in school. So the kids stay at home to stay under the insurance. It saves them money and us money, so why not.

As Troop notes, there are some positives, but those positives are really to the parents. My kids aren't having to learn how to make ends meet. They are pretty good at working hard and late to get the job done, but I think that's because they were jocks as teenagers. Most of their childhood friends still living at home are quick to give up when facing adversity, and the parents stay the safety net. When you don't have a safety net, you learn it sucks to fail, and so will learn quickly not to fail.Lelandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09531159384688653131noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-717986195212622043.post-24531480614643130872017-04-20T17:47:43.517-04:002017-04-20T17:47:43.517-04:00Colleges and universities are a shameless rip off....Colleges and universities are a shameless rip off. Like TV televangelists we're all supposed to despise - they do the exact same thing, with the exact same level of sanctimony. Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker were pikers compared to this band of thieves and their disgusting religious theme parks (with all the best amenities). They overcharge because they're overvalued - with government approval and subsidization (due to the brainwashing courses). A good technical college or basic trade school is a much better launching pad for people who are coming from little or no money. That's another thing: People do not save for college any more because it's just too daunting. First off, people don't save for their offspring as much anymore anyway and plus there's no point since there's nothing they can afford to save for.Amartelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11636450794507517534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-717986195212622043.post-75170907243911337122017-04-20T17:34:06.106-04:002017-04-20T17:34:06.106-04:00If Lem's right, then we better start blaming t...If Lem's right, then we better start blaming the teacher unions.

Start with disbanding the DOE.edutcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15033144261502435196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-717986195212622043.post-62418210154107162652017-04-20T17:23:52.548-04:002017-04-20T17:23:52.548-04:00Something happened with the raising of children af...Something happened with the raising of children after that and now we're living with the consequences Lem the artificially intelligent https://www.blogger.com/profile/03569712564034666751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-717986195212622043.post-40930969819882122482017-04-20T17:21:54.107-04:002017-04-20T17:21:54.107-04:00It all started to go south with the actions of thi...It all started to go south with the actions of this man abducting and killing the first milk carton little boy Etan Patz – boy on the milk carton – gets justice: Man convicted in 1979 murder.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2017/02/14/nyc-jury-reaches-verdict-etan-patz-murder-case/97894676/
Lem the artificially intelligent https://www.blogger.com/profile/03569712564034666751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-717986195212622043.post-12847685402770601412017-04-20T17:20:15.628-04:002017-04-20T17:20:15.628-04:00Kyle Kaylor = Kato Kaelin.Kyle Kaylor = Kato Kaelin.Amartelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11636450794507517534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-717986195212622043.post-70614051980404962482017-04-20T17:09:32.073-04:002017-04-20T17:09:32.073-04:00A brand new fancy coffee shop opened up down the s...A brand new fancy coffee shop opened up down the street.
