Overheard at Lem's

CL asked if Hal Blaine played drums on the Johnny Quest theme song. I have no idea. He may very well have. He did play on the Batman theme, and over 6,000 other recordings. My favorite quote about Hal Blaine was made by the man himself "Blaine told the magazine Modern Drummer that Bruce Gary, who played drums in the Knack, was once asked who his favorite drummer was. “He was never so disappointed in his life to find out that a dozen of his favorite drummers were me.”

I just learned that Hal Blaine died the other day at the age of 90. The Wrecking Crew is slowly being reassembled in Heaven, I suppose.

So what exactly is the “Wall Of Sound” secret? Phil Spector invented it and Bruce Springsteen borrowed it for his “Born With The Runs” album.
