My point is that there's just not 10 trillion or anything near it available for cutting without seriously reducing entitlement spending and that while Trump has never committed to the 10 trillion number the article tries to attach it to his plans.Rabelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02612585516401001803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-717986195212622043.post-63178052113175930522017-01-19T20:18:03.683-05:002017-01-19T20:18:03.683-05:00Rabel said...

That could only be obtained by significant cuts to SS, Medicare and Medicaid, not by simply eliminating government departments and employees and fraud and abuse. The "blueprint" cited does claim to reach that level of reduction but only by making severe cuts to those entitlement programs I listed. Trump has said he will not do that and it seems to me to be politically impossible. So why push the 10.4 trillion number?

Rabel, if you don't include entitlements like SS/Medicaid/Medicare, then you eliminate 2/3rds of what you can cut. On a $4 trillion dollar a year budget, 2/3rds of that is $2.64 trillion. So that leaves you with the remaining 1/3rd which is $1.36 trillion. Over 10 years that equates to $13.6 trillion, so in effect if Trump is going to run government slashing what he needs to, then the federal budget is going to be around $2.64 trillion for entitlements alone + another $360 billion per budget year on top of that to run everything else which comes out to a total of a $3 billion yearly budget and then you can get your $10 trillion over a 10 year period.

Now is that realistic? Doubtful. If Trump decides he will wade into the impossible waters of touching the entitlements, then I guess we'll see if piles of the elderly dead start piling up based on the apocalyptic predictions of leftists. If however, you factor in his 3 tier tax cuts with the marginal top rate being at 25%, then that would be or could be considered an entitlement increase on the taxes that are paid on those benefits. Shit, it'll effectively be a pay raise for working people just on that alone.Methadrashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07828014989470539375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-717986195212622043.post-4828510513066323262017-01-19T18:36:51.475-05:002017-01-19T18:36:51.475-05:00I agree with ed's list except I could argue to...I agree with ed's list except I could argue to keep Transportation (FAA primarily) and Energy (if it focused on maintaining and improving the power grid, which for every state but Alaska, Hawaii, and Texas, is integrated with other states thus a reasonable federal concern.
