"We have compassion. We want to keep families together. So I’ll be signing something in a little while that’s going to do that,"

Trump said that to reporters at the White House.
"I'll be doing something that's somewhat preemptive, but is going to be matched by legislation, we want to be strong on the border" 
He also cancelled a picnic scheduled for Thursday because it doesn't feel right to have a lighthearted summertime womanish picnic when working on something so important as this.

I might have added a few extra adjectives. I'm terrible at transcribing. Maybe you're better off reading this at Washington Examiner.

The law was created to protect kids from exploitation and assault.

If Trump does anything (we'll see), it's going to be along the lines of, "Be careful of that for which you wish. You may get it".

They could have left their kids at home and brought their support animals. The howling would have been worse.
