Masterpiece Cakeshop, Denver Colorado

The Supreme Court did not rule that Mr. Phillips had a first amendment right to refuse to bake the cake, rather, the court delivered a smackdown to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission for violating his first amendment rights by its severe discrimination against Christianity as a moral value. The justices said the Colorado commission's proceeding was tainted by hostility to religion, that Mr. Phillips' right to a neutral and respectful consideration was compromised by having his genuine religious beliefs compared to defenses of slavery and the Holocaust, a sentiment that is inappropriate for a Commission charged with the responsibility of fair and neutral enforcement of Colorado's anti-discrimination law, one that protects on the basis of religion as well as sexual orientation. Additionally the Commission's ruling is inconsistent with the Commissions previous ruling in cases of bakers who refused to make cakes with images that showed disapproval of same-sex marriage."

A lot more mind-numing details, twenty-five pages of them, here on scribd. Have a look. Parts are actually interesting, although they have this thing about citing previous and pending cases.

The commission ruled that Mr. Phillips had to take thought-adjustment classes. And he had to report to the Commission on all of his work, and for whom, and for how much. He had to log his time. The Supreme Court did away with all that 1984, Brave New World, Atlas Shrugged, nonsense.

Kennedy wants to save his legacy.

Won't work.

That was some great work, Chip.

Maybe a majority of the Justices on the Court are taken aback by what they have wrought. Maybe they're aghast even. Of course Ginsberg is full steam ahead for the Soviet Union here in the US of A, but apparently Breyer and Sotomayer had reservations (amazingly) about a boot stamping on a face forever.

Oops, my mistake. It was Kagan who voted with the majority, not Sotomayor, who sided with Ginsberg.

Another narrow decision that allows future commissions and litigants to come and feed on the dying carcass of the constitution. The correct ruling is "No, you don't have the authority to force individuals to act against their will. Period. End of story." The constitution is greater than the Civil Rights act.

These stinking judges can find rights in the constitution like a word game search, but can't find the 1st, 2nd, 4th or 13th amendment and that includes John Roberts. These assholes refused to take up the cases of the New Mexican florist and the other cake case in Oregon.
They seem to think they're some employment office for the legal profession.

Question for Dickin’:

What was Hickenblooper’s stance on the cake affair? Was he on the right or wrong side of history?

Never mind. He was “disappointed” by the decision as he hugged the 2 “case shoppers.”

I guess there goes your governor’s chances at national politics.

Hick is a reliable lefty but he's not as bad as most. He's tolerable. But yeah - you found out.

Hickenlooper isn't leftwing enough for the radial democrat party. Nationally we could do worse. He actually said something negative about HIllary before she became the nominee. He didn't want her. He fell in line as soon as she became the nom.

His instincts are not bad but he falls in line. Isn't that the rub for the left? You must fall in line.

You're an outlier, DBH. That's why you're not a lefty.

You'd fall in line to be the first to not fall in line. Screw lines.

More power to ya.

Remember when advocates of redefining marriage said they had no desire to force anyone to do or believe anything, they only wanted to do what they want and be left alone?

Good times!

Yeah - Good times. Now it's mind crime times.
