How long did that take? Six seconds, days, weeks or months? When one of the ministers in my past said, "The life is in the blood" while building his case for sacrificial atonement, I heard something that's stayed with me as true, regardless of application. We are creatures of blood and breath moving through time.

Peculiar treasures, we also are, with enough wonderment and tenacity to observe, record, express and invite; born to inspire in the fullest sense of the word.

A part failed on my mountain bike and I crashed heavily on my right hip back in '85. The hematoma was impressive. I sought out a surgeon to stem the flow of blood. He was a wise surgeon and refused. He said "In two weeks it will be gone". He was correct. I did get some nice Hawaiian sunset colors on my leg, though.

Another thing he said was that blood is hydroscopic - it attracts water. So what looks like a mass of blood under one's skin is mostly water.

So to continue with MamaM's thought - blood truly is thicker than water.

Or to light out for the territories on my own - don't let your family get under your skin - you'll swell up.

Dang, did I write "hydroscopic"? And it was not underlined? For shame. The word is "hygroscopic". I knew that.
