Snow Days At Last.. Happy St Pats to everyone.

Finally!!! We get snow.  It has been a long dry spell for us up here in the mountains.   The snow started yesterday and it is again snowing today.

Yesterday sunrise...sort of.  See the itty bitty sun?

Needless to say we won't be sitting on the deck for awhile.  What to do when you are housebound?
Why....Bake something of course!    Turn on the music and read a book while waiting for the baked goods.

Lately, I have been going through a box of rather old Bon Appetite magazines that have been hanging around for quite some time------>hoarder!  Tearing out the interesting recipes and converting a big stack of mags into a small folder of clippings.  Bye Bye Bon Appetite.   So...I found a recipe for a Banana Cake with cream cheese-sour cream icing.    Experimented with it on the Dumbplumber as the taste tester. He gives a thumbs up.   It is a keeper....the recipe and the husband.

Now that today is St Patrick's day we are going to have a Corned Beef dinner....(as if we need an excuse)  With cake for dessert.    Today is also the celebratory day of  St Gertrude of Nivelles (patron saint of cats).

So...have Corned Beef. Drink some adult beverages.  Pet your cats or feed the strays outside. They need love too.

Enjoy the day.

Just in case anyone is interested.  Here is how I cook and serve my corned beef.. Roasted Corned Beef with Mustard Brown Sugar Glaze.     I sure wish I could take beautiful photos like Chip.!

Thanks DBQ. I havent had good corn beef since, BION, Marie Callendars served it must have been 40 years ago, when they were a popular chain. The local Irish pub here doesnt do it well, and I have not bothered to explore recipes for cooking it myself. So now I will.

Snowshoeing to the mailbox today?

You're going with a side of ash-cake, right?

Glad for the snow, DBQ. Just a short time ago, you were telling us how do re the drought was. This is good news for California in general. In fact, all the physical beauty aspects of California remain in place. It’s only at the political level that things look bad and getting worse. At least there is a lot of infighting amongst the dems. Sorry to bring up politics.

Our daughter came home last night. She goes to school up in Santa Barbara. The flu is going around up there and both she and her dorm roommate caught it.

If anyone has the time there's an interesting and even delightful article at The American Spectator site, An Italian View Of The Irish, based on an actual speech covering that ground given by the late great Judge Scalia to a Hibernian Society. Is there more malarkey in the Irish than in other ethnicities? Scalia says there just might be, with a wink and a nod. Scalia by the way was married to an Irishwoman.

oopsy, you do know corned beef is just Irish soul food.

And, if you want snow, feel free to take some of ours.

I hope Troop posts his annual Sinead O’Connor tribute.

CL - I hope your daughter is okay, and "up" in SB is an interesting perspectives, says the SV/SC guy. Of course now, my perspective is that SB is "out", as in "way out west".

We had some snow and sleet last week, today is a lot nicer.

The Irish and the Italians are the same people, separated by just a few miles and France.

Ash cake, not just a side dish anymore!
