"Manafort Calls On DOJ To Release His Intercepted Communications With Foreigners"

Via InstapunditManafort, a longtime Republican political consultant, also called on the Justice Department’s inspector general to investigate the leak of details of secret surveillance warrants obtained by U.S. investigators.

“Mr. Manafort requests that the Department of Justice release any intercepts involving him and any non-Americans so interested parties can come to the same conclusion as the DOJ — there is nothing there,” Manafort spokesman Jason Maloni said in a statement.

On Monday, CNN reported that investigators obtained a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant against Manafort prior to the presidential election. The wiretapping continued into early this year, according to CNN’s unnamed sources.

I'm guessing he knows what's there and Mueller doesn't want it known by the public.

I have read that the entire beginning of the Velesitskaya Affair could have been a plan to trigger the mass surveillance system (that looks at the vast stream of data in emails, texts, etc., looking for certain words).

The article questioned if the original email sent to Trump Jr. from that playboy guy (not Hefner, Troop) setting up the meeting with Velesitskaya might have been intended to justify a FISA warrant to wire at least Junior.

Manafort getting in front of this is a smart play. However, this is going to cost him a fortune in legal fees.

Mea culpa, the article did not say about FISA data mining, but a sting:

The depressing thing here is the silence.

Most of us here understand at a basic level the corrupting power that comes when a politician can spy on their political rivals. And there is no question here the previous Administration was spying. Initially they spied on just a rival, but it seems to have continued to spying on the incoming Administration, and finally leaving people in the system to spy and leak information, some of which has already caused damage beyond just hurting an opponent.

This was understand very well when the President accused of spying was a Republican and his name was Nixon.

And let's not miss a key importance here by saying, "well of course the media is just Democrats". They haven't been silent until a couple of weeks ago. Before the first hurricane, there were reports that Mueller would drop the hammer in September, but now nothing.

The silence is from the GOP in Congress. Shouldn't any one of the Republican members of this august body be incensed that the spying apparatus of the United States, intended to keep foreign nations in check, has been turned on their party to keep them in check?

They can claim, "We hate Trump, it wasn't his turn, and he was liberal before", but by now they must get the lack of tactical value in that statement, and the soon to be extreme strategic loss if the previous Administration gets away with this spying. So why are they so silent?

Why is it only Manafort out there saying, "hey, did you see what they did here?"

Did anyone miss what happened Wisconsin, where Democrats did this very thing at a state level? There, the victims, initially frightened into remaining silent, finally came out to say "hey, did you see what the did here?" And that lead to a discovery of a crime committed by the notional respected authorities.

Why are we still frightened into remaining silent?

Leland, the GOP is dead to me. They are nothing but neutered spineless shitheads that aren't worth pissing on to put them out if they were on fire.
