"49ers, Rams Open Seasons With Plenty of Empty Seats in Stadiums"

Via my home page news: The Rams and 49ers each opened their season at home Sunday, and both teams had to start their games with lots of empty seats in the stadium.

The Rams are hosting the the Colts, but it seems like the los Angeles fans are not that concerned about being there to see it in person.

I think the people who follow fooshball are in short supply on the Left Coast.

I used to follow fooshball. Not anymore.

Also, it's still hot and muggy out here. Not Vegas hot but still, not weather conducive to fall sports or sitting in the sun for an extended period of time. (They were so stupid to move the 9ers down to Santa Clara. Now the silicon corporate stooges can enjoy their in-person football experience sans real fans. Coming soon: the Google Stooges football team.)

Speaking of football did anyone watch the US Tennis Open match between Rafael Nadal and Del Porto or Del Potro? What intensity that Nadal has! Del Porto had like at least 8 inches over Nadal in height but Nadal attacked ferociously and he beat the big oaf. It was great.

I stopped following all pro-sports. I have zero regrets.

I don't know what the reasons are, but I've also lost interest in professional sports. This was before the kneeling and assorted murders and assaults. Maybe it's something to do with aging. There used to be a time when baseball was the most popular sport. Maybe baseball will rise again, but even when I was a fan I used to fall asleep during games.

The NFL has lost many white working class fans like me. The beer drinkers. The sausage and pepper hero guy. The tailgater.

They want corporate clients. Big money. They pay lip service to their hardcore fans who brought in most of the money while they cater to the wealthy.

The NFL has become the Republican party. Ignore the base. Cater to the elite.

I was a hardcore fan. Better. Season ticket holder.

Now I don't give two shits.

The NFL is gone and it is not coming back.

Once you give up Hillarywood/Socialistwood, giving up ESPN and over-paid-lefty-pig-socks-mega-sports is the logical next step. I applaud!

As the cacophony continued all around me.
Now I understand! The pull of the well of the womb --
Always there, always from the surface frenzy waiting to set me free.

What the Cleveland Browns did showed more class.

If the Pack allows any of that protest crap, I'll retire my Packers fan card.

"The pull of the well of the womb" is a terrific line, but in my case the pull of the well of the tomb is more appropriate. Those gentle tugs get stronger every year.

I won't watch an NFL game again. NHL for me. Where the fans sing the national anthems of both countries (I won't sing O Canada in French, though...I have my limits).

I keep the backdoor open to the noises outside for how I love them so. Except car horns because that's just rude. While other bizarre people noises are amusing. Even children just making noises. Even when people are drunk. Or just having a bast. I love all of it. That's why I moved to heart of the city, after all, instead of to country peace and quiet and pure nature. Last night some sports thing was on rather late. I haven't a clue what. Didn't look around the channels for a footie game to see what was so exciting, because that didn't matter. Could have been the tennis thing Ricpic mentioned. But some male voice in its third decade, you can tell by its tonal quality, its unbridled immature excitement, its uncontrolled enthusiasm, its volume, sharpness and clarity and intensity, the dude was having a fantastic time. He was really into it. And no one around to tell him to calm himself. No one to nag him. And that right there is a precious thing. The space to be yourself. It's one of those things where your impulse is to go STFU already you inconsiderate self-absorbed dope! But awhile ago I've had a major attitude adjustment occur as a bolt, a change of heart, like zap, an emotional epiphany that told me that's what I actually want. As I worked on a GIF so large that Photoshop eventually refused to save it as GIF for having too many frames, I visualized a young man sitting alone watching a game as if he were there, as if he was part of some favored team, as if the game meant anything at all, as if it weren't complete nonsense, and I liked it. i cannot get excited like that. Its awesome.

This sports enthusiasm that I'm talking about stems from some kind of DNA sequence that I don't have. I tried to get excited. I tried to allow myself to be carried away by group energy at sports arenas. I've put myself in those situations repeatedly. And I failed. When I see and hear people around me being so taken away with just viewing, it makes me very happy.

It's like wine. It just doesn't work and I don't know why. My body rejects it.

Each glass of wine I wish was a Coke a Cola.

Each sports program I wish was Archaeology instead and narrated in American accent.

That's how my DNA is fucked.

They're very twisty little strands, you know. Easy for things to go off.

Still, it's a real pleasure to see and hear people enjoying wine as if it were delicious as Kool Aid, and enjoying sports shows as if they are interesting as archaeology or something so truly interesting as food preparation.

No matter what we think about politics marring sports, no matter our profound clear thinking, our seasoned reasoning, there are still a lot of people out there enjoying it to its maximum affect. Still enjoying the marching bands. And that makes me very happy.

Care to see something tremendously stupid?

Of course you do!

A British site, highlighting a Japanese marching band on a soccer field, playing '40's American jazz music, marching precisely, winning some Japanese female competition, and no British comment section is complete without some jackass irrelevant picayune antiAmerican gripe pulled out of some resentful nitwit Brit's smelly unwashed asshole. So stupid I cannot even watch it, yet the Brits admire the precision and its excellence.

I heard a cicada the other day - first one I heard all year. I thought that I had become so deaf that I had lost the ability to hear them, but no - there it was, alone, in a tree, chirping his little cicada heart out.

Then I heard frogs - the little kind that wander around here, not Frenchies. Frogs - thanks for piping up.

Yeah, i love the way the Japanese take stuff from the outside world and then turn it into something completely Japanese.

"resentful nitwit Brit's smelly unwashed asshole"

You got that right. The UK probably has more natural born losers than any other country in the world. In their own mind, they're still the Worlds No. 1 country, even though they're now No. 23.

Chip, that wasn't incredibly stupid, but absolutely adorable. Who knew the Japanese did that kind of stuff?

Want hear something I find completely off-putting, but you might like? A woman with an American accent narrating Jane Austen. Sacrilege!
