"Why McCain's Glioblastoma Will Be the Fight of His Life"

Charlie Martin, via Instapundit: The senator was diagnosed with glioblastoma, the same tumor type that killed Senator Edward Kennedy and Joe Biden's son Beau. I wrote about my own experience of a loved one named Steph with glioblastoma in a PJ piece in April.

Glioblastoma multiforme is a very aggressive tumor of astrocytes, star-shaped cells that are part of the glia. We used to think of glial cells as sort of the infrastructure of the brain, supporting and surrounding the neurons, but recently it's been discovered that astrocytes, in particular, have signaling functions of their own.

Astrocytes are tangled into the structures of the other glial cells. This image of an astrocyte gives an impression of how they are woven into the brain.

They will roll him into the senate chamber on a gurney with tubes that pump and drain before he lets go of his seat.

A song for the occasion.

I doubt he really has all that much time. He's also losing competence, so the Governor of AZ will be making an appointment sooner rather than later.

Guy sounds like it won't be just another Whig.

A fight that he will lose.

Sorry the guy is sick, but let go of power. Show some dignity, man. Let go! He won't and that tells me his integrity is right up there with Teddy Kennedy.

No, this is about the limelight and the attention.

This will be the longest farewell since Buffalo Bill.

I wish him the best. I don't like a lot of what he did, but he was a genuine hero in Vietnam, and he did vote right on a lot of things. I pray for him.
