"Anthem protests led poll of reasons viewers tuned out"

The pollster said it asked more than 9,200 people who attended either one football, basketball or hockey game whether they tuned into fewer games and why. Twenty-six percent of those who watched fewer games last season said that national anthem protests, some of which were led by Colin Kaepernick, were the reason.

After that, 24 percent of those surveyed who said they watched fewer games said they did so either because of the league's off-the-field image issues with domestic violence or with game delays, including penalties.

It was more of a cumulative effect for me. I don't care to watch a great sport die off.

Jerry Jones just said all Cowboys will stand for the anthem or they will cease being Cowboys.

I'd say game delays including instant replay is another, but I would have been in the first group as well the off the field image (but not because of domestic violence, but rather because of desire to be a corporate SJW).

I'm pretty much done with professional sports altogether. Haven't seen a game of anything and honestly, it's been fantastic. I simply no longer care. If people focused as much time to the care and feeding of their country as they do to sports, we would be in a completely different position.

I agree Meth, I don't have time in my life for such nonsense. I would rather work than "watch".

Pffft.

I have no idea what's going on.

But I'll admit, I sure did have fun at the games that I went to, both pros and university. Honestly. You can feel the energy of the place just approaching the arena. All that confetti blowing around inside a giant bowl. The sounds rising and falling. The insane things they do inside. It's outrageous. It was like being an ancient Roman all over again. And watching the game I very nearly understood what was happening. But on t.v... nothing. It was a good premise for hosting a party, for other people to watch, but I no longer do any of that. While I still hear people that do, youngsters, and I think, oh man, those were the good old days. I'm glad people still enjoy them.

These percentages mentioned go a long way in describing decline but they leave it to us to calculate the greater number left unaffected.

The people involved in this sport, in playing, coaching, managing, owning, and broadcasting, all capitulated in a hundred different ways in bringing down the sport. They hollowed it out for their own selfish purposes. Now, like a lot of other "entertainments," it's just no longer authentic or entertaining.

If people focused half, even a quarter as much time to the care and feeding of their country as they do to sports, we would be in a completely different position.

FIFY, but you're absolutely right.

Same with Hollyweird celebs and HBO porno soap operas.

Can't give up the Astros... not this season.

Were I ever to get another ticket to see Duke play in Cameron Indoor I would go. As Chip says, the energy inside an enclosed space like that is awesome. Add another 20% for the Cameron Crazies and you are talking some serious energy. Earplugs required.

But that's it. Not going to watch on television, not going to any other games. Well, maybe a Durham Bulls game. But that's really it.

The NFL has Colin cancer.
Time to pack a wallop and whack those polyps!

BTW, ESPN is leading Disney's stock into the toilet.

Sixty, The Legends Club, about Valvano, Dean Smith, and K, is a pretty good read.

The best thing about sports is that it's a good reason to drink beer. Not that I need a reason or an excuse.

It's a mixed bag. What he's protesting is stupid, but they shouldn't play the national anthem at sporting events anyway. If he were protesting that, I'd be on his side.

Is there something The Suits can't understand about DON'T INSULT YOUR FAN BASE?

I don't watch sports but I do read the sports pages. Sometimes I can barely stand the usual blather on the editorial page, even if I agree with it, but there's something fascinating about how the Mets are fouling up this time....again.

Nobody was a bigger sports fan than me. I had season tickets for over twenty five years to the Yankees, Knicks and Giants. The amount of money I wasted makes me sick.

The national anthem was the last straw for me. I don't watch anymore. They will never get another dime from me.

There are millions of working class guys like me. The NFL spits in our face and expects us to like it. They are going to be very surprised.

Not mention that "emerging demographic majorities" don't give two shits about American football. Yeah, they fucked with their fan base. I hope that in retrospect it's seen as a "Hollywood move" i.e., similar to what the entertainment industry did to itself.

Great job Colin! You sure know how to market yourself, not to mention making the cause you pretended to care about even less popular. Huge fail, dickhead.

I wonder when Colin will join ISIS?

The Dude said...

Not soon enough - they need more multi-millionaire hairballs on their side.

In related news, I started watching Bull Durham last evening - I know you LA and NYC folks are used to seeing your town on tv and in movies, but I still get a kick out of seeing stinky lil Durham on the screen. Oh, look, there's Annie waking down Morris street, crossing Corporation to get to the ball park. There's the ballpark, the way it was when it was good, when you could lean over the railing and talk to the players.

Did I ever tell you about the time maybe 25 years ago when the Frederick Keys were playing the Bulls? Since I used to live in Frederick I figured I would talk to the visitors. "Hey, you guys from Frederick? I used to live there."

"No, we are from Dominican Republic."

What was I thinking?

I thought he was already dating ISIS. All of this grandstanding was just him trying to get in her pants.
