Unconfirmed: Comey struck immunity deal with Mueller

A report at truepundit.com has Twitter member Thomas1774Paine saying:
Comey's leak got Mueller appointed special counsel. Comey will work behind scenes w/ him to steer investigation. Be warned. I know both.
And:
If you think you've seen the last of #Comey, think again.
Hamlet is a five-act play.
We're only in Act Two.
Julius Caesar, Hamlet, King Leer, Richard III, everything is Shakespeare around here lately.

Thomas Paine has an interesting Twitter feed loaded with all kinds of important reports. The Twitter site has a banner reading True Pundit. So apparently the Twitter feed is connected with the website.

The truepundit website adds:
“The immunity is a done deal,” a Justice Department source said. “Mueller can do whatever he wants. We (Justice) have no say but after many years working criminal cases I know Comey has been given immunity. You can tell by the way he is acting now and the fact that Mueller has kept us in the dark about his investigation.”
The writer(s) there continue:
As Special Counsel, by law Mueller is permitted to strike immunity agreements without having to get approval for the Attorney General of anyone at Justice. Also he is not obligated as Special Counsel to inform Justice about who is under immunity.
It’s no secret Comey and Mueller are close friends, having worked together at Justice for years alongside Eric Holder. Comey has described Mueller, who also served as FBI director, as his one-time mentor. If someone in Congress cared enough to do something about it, there are no shortages of conflicts of interests at play here in what is supposed to be an impartial investigation. In fact, it’s somewhat staggering.
But what are friends for? Folks outside of D.C. are getting another unwelcome crash course into corruption.
I've lifted too much. The rest is equally interesting dismaying rotten to the core.

But it's not long enough. And the commiserating in 74 comments that follows is supportive but insufficient.

MOAR!

For protracted miserable reading there's more on the subject of Washington kabuki theater for losing and lost souls.

Tigerdroppings.com, Thick as Thieves. Mueller gives Comey get-out-of-jail-for-free card ... Immunity.

Beforeitsnews.com, That Was Quick: Reports Say Mueller Granted Comey Full Immunity Even Before Investigation Began.

And a lot more, a few of the results are phrased in interrogative construction, being journalistically cautious, while our preference is incautious declarative no matter how outrageous.

Duckduckgo search [mueller gave comey immunity]

So how about that, Kids? Isn't this fun? A giant show on a national scale, just for us. By the worst ugliest actors available and terribly expensive besides. Still, our nation, our compatriots demand it. Demand it to the extreme point that anti-gun activists actually die shooting their opponents with illegal firearms to drive their political compulsions. This investigative theater is their thing. It's what they do.  I read that in a John le Carré novel.  He stated through one of his Russian characters, "Americans investigate each other continuously. It's what they do." I was very young when I read that and I found the plain simple fact provided by a foreigner rather insightful at the time. But not now.

Let's see how this all turns out.

Mueller and Comey expect Trump to play by the rules. We all know he won't.

Mueller and Comey think they're smarter than him. So did everybody else.

Surber had an interesting idea - appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the special prosecutor. He says Rudy. I like Rudy. Always been a Rudy guy.

And there's this

Trump has already started hitting back on Twitter. "They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story. Nice".

PS Chip, this may not be Shakespeare as much as Greek tragedy. Once you invoke Aeschylus and Sophocles, Euripides is not always answered by Eumenides.

President is Mueller's boss. Trump can LIMIT Mueller to investigating possible felonies, not process crimes. No felonies uncovered and the damned thing ends. And all the screaming from the sidelines won't change who's boss. But Trump must make it clear that Mueller is NOT unaccountable. Mueller IS accountable. To Trump.

I agree Ricpic, but we need to pressure those in Congress to also call for Mueller to resign or end this farce. They had Comey in front of them. He has clearly lied to them twice in their face and caught on camera. They may not be interested in prosecuting for perjury, but they can certainly make it clear that his credibility is garbage and any investigation based on claims from Comey is garbage.

That goes for the investigation of Hillary too, but she already got her free pass and moreover early retirement. Nothing gained from sipping that spilled milk. So time to put Comey in his place and sit Mueller along side him. Put in already offered asylum in Russia. Just need some hookers and a hotel bed, and then we can all just piss on them.

Unlikely to be true. It would do more harm that good to both Comey and Mueller.

I'm waiting for Mueller to grant Mueller immunity.

It all gets back to Rothenstein. who is he? Why did Sessions want him as DAG?

Funny how you can't get answers to this. All you get is what a great guy he is.

Y'know just like Comey.

The real collusion is the attempt to bring down a president with nothing.

Mueller and Comey sound like two sides of the same establishment coin. I guess Mueller can be "heads" since Comey has already proven he's, erm, ... not heads.
If Mueller thinks he's there to be the Bushies' revenge, he's going to find that there's a new sheriff in town and business as usual is not going to cut it.

Why not just fire Mueller for failing to control the leaks. If I was Trump, I would fire the Obama appointee in charge of the document leaked, each time there is a leak.

I can believe that Mueller granted Comey immunity, but I can't believe the story got leaked. You've got to be extremely naive to believe that anything not detrimental to Trump would ever be leaked........Any chance of them setting a sunset on the investigation, at least so far as it concerns the President.

New Trump Tweet-

"Crooked H destroyed phones w/ hammer, 'bleached' emails, & had husband meet w/AG days before she was cleared- & they talk about obstruction?"

Spot on.

I told you Comey would skate. Every one of these fuckers is going to skate and never see a courtroom. There is no justice. The law is two-tiered now. That's the bottom line at this point.

edutcher said...

He hasn't gone yet.

If Mueller's offer (which is only rumor at this point) was made only for the purposes of setting up a phony charge against Trump, I'll bet it has no legal standing.

Considering anything Comey says at this point has already been proven untrue, Mueller could be setting himself up for the biggest comedown since Haldeman and Erlichman.

No, this all goes back to President Trump, and his poor decision-making leading up to firing Comey. That was a self-inflicted wound, and that set all this in motion.

Methadras said...

Well, I don't see how his sworn testimony to Congress allows him an immunity deal, to begin with considering that on many occasions he stated to the president he wasn't the focus of the investigation and to secure immunity implies he was lying not only to the president but to Congress as well. I don't think this alleged immunity would hold up.

Firing Comey was the best decision he's made so far. Firing Mueller would be just as good at this point. Sessions should remove his recusal and Rosenstein should be fired too. Screw the whole special prosector crap, the leftists will never let it go even if Mueller finds nothing on trump, so why go through the Kabuki? Just fire and stop the whole thing and lead the country without these cretinous creatures on your back.
