Interesting video. So when you go into the patent trolling swamp, what a surprise that you find Harry Reid down there in the muck.

I was afraid people would not watch until the Harry Reid part.

All that research and he didn't shoot anyone.

He sounds like he was patent trolled. They don't actually want to sue him because they know they know they might lose in a jury trial. Most patent disputes settle out of court. They want him to feed their coffers.

Listening to the technicalities, he should know that a SCOTUS decision in 2010 or 11 sharply curtailed those sorts of overly broad patent claims -- the ones having to do with ideas and conceptual claims. The Patent Office issued stringent guidelines tell tell Examiners what to allow and what not to allow. The claim in question sounds like such a patent. There are many such patents still in force, but they are going away, slowly.

All that being said, I don't like the blasé attitude that all patents are bad. The default setting for intellectual property is Trade secrecy. Jefferson realized that that was bad for innovation and came up with our system, more or less. It is a grand compromise as it were.

These scumbags are worse than parasites and it really highlights the incompetence going on in the USPTO.

Patents are good.

The way to end patent lawsuit abuse is not grant overly broad patents (that are subject to abuse) and allow attorney fees and costs to to winner in a patent lawsuit.
