Don't be a puppet.

Rabel said...
It's a formal treaty of mutual self defense between the USA and South Korea. You can argue for its termination after one year's notice as provided but as of now we are pledged to its fulfillment. I think you'd find yourself in a small minority, but go for it.
 Trooper York said...
Do you think we should still be party to this treaty Rabel? What do we get out of it? What part of our naked self interest does this satisfy? Is it to make us feel good? To make us be the "leader of the free world? To protect them from the commies? What is our vital interest in Korea? We don't have enough barbecue and Karaoke bars?

Why are thousands of our best young men and woman being held hostage to the whims of oriental despots that really have nothing to do with us?

Abrogate the treaty today and bring our boys and girls home now. Put them on the border and we wouldn't even have to build wall.

This is a discussion Rabel and I had on another thread about Korea. It seem that a lot of people are pushing for war in Korea. For us to take unilateral military action to take out this gook dictator even though he has nuclear weapons. Because. Because? Why are we in Korea? What is our national interest? To protect Japan and South Korea? Trade rivals and economies that undercut the American workers? To preserve our prestige? To show we have bigger dicks than the Chinamen. Look if you don't know that your dick is bigger than a Chinaman's a war is not going to prove it. So what is the reason? There is no reason. I hope and pray that President Trump is smart enough not to get into a war with a nuclear power over nothing.I fear that he is being influenced by the warmongers and the globalists who want a war. He got a lot of praise for bombing towelheads. More than just about anything else he has done so far. Is he going to do this to get the praise of the media and the establishment? I pray that he is smarter than that.

It's the old business of chokepoints. Korea is a knife at Japan's throat (and vice versa) the way Ireland is at Britain's.

You may not care about Korea or even Japan, but, if the Norks can ever get their hands on a delivery system that can hit HI, are you going to say, "What part of our naked self interest does HI satisfy"?

I do know Trump would love the Red Chinese to bog themselves down with this one.

The real issue is, in a world of crazies with the capabilities of nucular weapons and ICBMs, how long do you want to wait?

As far as I'm concerned, the Kims are trying to scare the world one more time. Trump just showed them a MOAB can do the damage of a nuke without all the ugly side effects.

That's why this thing has calmed down rather quickly.

Ed if we are not in their business they will be busy with their own concerns. If we are not there in their face in South Korea the Chinese will have to step on him. They will do that to control those economies. Which will be great for us. Because they will fuck it up. By removing ourselves we turn it over to China and make it their problem.

Let me give you an example. We got involved in Afghanistan to check the Russians. They pulled out. We went in. Because of that we got the Taliban, AL Queida and 911. None of which would have happened if we had let Russian spend it's blood and treasure on those goat humpers.

Turn Korea and Japan over to China. It is not our problem.

Do you know what the "Great game" is?

It's not the WNBA.

It was the conflict between England and Russia over Afghanistan. Which was a crossroads as you say. Well it is not the 1600's anymore. We don't send caravans down the silk road. We don't need to play the Great Game with China and Russia anymore. Give them their hegemony. Protect ours. Our hemisphere. Our country. Avoid foreign entanglements.

America first.

Gooks is right. That's what they are to me. No connection whatsoever. To put it diplomatically.

I remember being struck - the shock of recognition to steal Robert Hughes' term - when I first read Henry Miller's description of himself as "a patriot...of Brooklyn." That's all we can be: patriots of the familiar. The orient is so unfamiliar that it might as well be the moon.

You do realize we were sending clipper ships in the China trade when Washington was President?

You want to stop doing business with the world completely?

A pipe dream then, a pipe dream now.

For the record, let it be known, a long time ago inside a sauna at Vail I encountered a young man. Nekid. He was Asian and small as a jockey and with round black rimmed glasses he looked for all the world exactly like Hirohito and I mean exactly and he sported Donkey Kong's dick. He is simply the most iconoclastic race-dick stereotype crasher that I have ever seen. I have no idea who he is. Encountered him only briefly given the steamy compromising dick swinging situation. He was associated with another group.

And he really did shatter that stereotype in my mind permanently. You make a standard joke, I think of that guy. Permanently.

My response.

I'm feeling ya, ric. But with me it's the Irish. Fucking Micks.

Rabel said...

And don't get me started on the damn Guidos.

Did I leave anybody out? What's Ed?

Rabel said...

Anybody here Jewish?

Rabel said...

I'd go after the Dominicans but that would be like tripping a cripple.

Rabel said...

Sorry about that, Chip.

Trooper York said...

Hey I don't have sympathy for the Micks or the guineas either. Should we send the Navy to stop the influx of terrorists into Italy? It is a big problem for them. Or is it none of our business.

Should we have sent the 101st Airborne to patrol the streets of Belfast during the troubles?

Everything isn't our problem. America does not have permanent allies. Only permanent interest.

Our self interest. What is good for us. Screw the rest of the world. Naked self interest should be our lodestar.

Rabel said...

"Naked self interest should be our lodestar."

I agree completely. Where we differ is on what constitutes our self interest.

Trooper York said...

This is true. You still haven't told me why screwing with Korea is in our interests. You just quoted a fifty year old treaty whose time has passed.

Enough is enough. Time for them to stand on their own two feet.
