Whose that author?

If my dream was true, then everything we know, everything we think we know is a lie. It means the world's about as solid and as reliable as a layer of scum on the top of a well of black water which goes down forever, and there are things in the depths that I don't even want to think about. It means that we're just dolls. We don't have a clue what's really going down, we just kid ourselves that we're in control of our lives while a paper's thickness away things that would drive us mad if we thought about them for too long play with us, and move us around from room to room, and put us away at night when they're tired, or bored.

I have no idea, it wasn't me, but I do have to get back out to the shop and sand, man.

Is it supposed to be some great insight that we're a step away from catastrophe at any given moment? The main thing is to get a decent night's sleep. Then you have to face the morning and the day with all their tsuris. But next comes evening when peace descends. And then...........

Why are we guessing this dude?

I like him saying, "The world always seems brighter when you've just made something that wasn't there before."

That's how I feel sometimes.

And then I realize it's all temporary. So the whole thing then becomes, "temporarily brighter." Flash. Gone.

And now I'm seeing my art outlive their owners.

And I'm also seeing people snatch them right up. I've seen them pull all sorts of sneaky shit like the executor of the estate shipping off a big one to his girlfriend in Upstate NY who said that she really liked it. You never know what people are plotting.

I think that's how the crossword constructors feel too. They're just so clever. And everything's already been done. Everything! And yet they go about their business and new ideas arise.

This one I did just now is titled "Getting Ahead."

It could be anything getting ahead-wise. Anything getting ahead of itself. Anything in area of letters that suggest something evolving. One word turning into another somehow.

But it turns out nothing adds up. None of the thematic entries amount to anything relating to heads or getting a head or ahead. And you're all, "This is like a regular non-themed puzzle."

But then some letters are circled and when you have them all filled and read them by lines they go.

HAIR
SCALP
BROWS
E_______________E
A___EYE__EYE___A
R_______________R
NOSE
LIPS
CHIN

He drew a picture of a head using words. It was the two "ear"s reading down that got me. I hope it shows up properly here.

A pretty little thing that never happened before. That must have felt fun when he made it. He's thinking, "Man, this is going to totally stump all those people out there." And the whole thing was rather tricky and weird. My solve time was poor.
