What's the most disturbing realisation you've come to?

reddit top voted comments...

The things I used to like about myself are no longer things that describe me.

So many misunderstandings and innocent mistakes have far-reaching consequences

For me, it was the realization of just how wrong I can be about people's character. I was pulling my hair out for months after my ex cheated because I couldn't reconcile what I believed about her and what she had done - it just didn't match up.

That the purpose of your adult life is to save money so you don't run out of money when you can't work anymore.

No matter how much someone you love is ruining their own life, they are the only person who can do anything to change themselves.

That people tend to judge others based on action, not intent. One out-of-character statement or action can permanently alter others' perception of you.

That I am "that friend". The one people only call when everyone else is busy.

As an adult, finally understanding my parents.

And realizing I had become them.

That there are 2 basic types of people, simplifiers and complicaters..avoid the latter. Eliminating negative people from your life is a key to being happy.

Pearls before swine.

I'm not sure if the realization that most are swine is disturbing. But it is disheartening. Of course you're not even supposed to make such an assertion in a democracy. And maybe you disagree. But it's been my experience that most are swine. Which doesn't mean they shouldn't receive equal protection under the law. It means that faith in education is, well...misplaced.

It's a huge topic but I've gotta take a nap.

That there are people out there that will fuck you for no reason and I don't mean in the sexual way either. That there are people with power that will try to use you because it suits them.
