I'm gonna go through my archived posts and kill disused tags and maybe add a few existing ones to old posts.

Make Lem's Levity searchable!

I'm not using tags until I get my own internet, and I can post using my computer again. Posting with iPhone's Navigator doesn't allow tagging.

chick is very sad the Chargers are leaving San Diego. Actually, their new home is maybe closer?

chickelit said...

Not sad, Nick. Indifferent.

ndspinelli said...

I know chick. But there should be pride. The people of San Diego said "FUCK YOU" to a billionaire who wanted taxpayers to build him a cathedral. Fuck that asshole! He will not make it in LA.

Ha ha ha. I'm watching the Warrior Pharaohs and and Pharaohs of the Sun, Egypt's Golden Empire, episode 1 on Amazon Prime and they said, "the pharaoh couldn't kick out the Asiatics by himself, he had to get the people to help him" They showed an Egyptian guy scrounging around in granary on top of a pile of dried corn on the cob.

Very nicely shown, but come on! Goddamnit. What's wrong with this picture?

Why must I be so obnoxiously critical? Why can't I just enjoy the show like everyone else? Why do I let one little thing like that ruin the whole show for me? Why must it taint all that follows, and this being at the very beginning? What is this vexing personality flaw that simply does not allow crap like that to pass? Can you see what a problem I was for professors all along just being my natural self? ]

I hate myself.

The show is very good, highly rated, and it has a lot of hieroglyphs to scan and enjoy.

Want to hear another thing that's otallytay upidstay?

I cannot wear my boots because they hurt too badly. I stretched them with baseballs and alcohol but they're still too tight and they pinch uncomfortably. And I realized, holy shit my feet are swollen!

I'm putting around on Fred Flintstone feet. It's ridiculous.

My other hiking boots still fit because they expand. Really W----I----D----E .

So I kept my hoofies elevated on cushions off and on all day and now they shrunk back to normal and my boots fit.

Told ya it was otallytay upidstay.

For the longest time (until tonight) I thought that the chorus lyric "everybody's feelin' warm and bright" was "everybody's feelin' a woman right." Must have been my pubescent hormones talkin'.

Chip, I'm sorry to hear that that experiment failed. But you could go back and try the frozen water bags trick suggested in the comments to your original post. That might be worth a try before you give up. Plus Denver nights should be cold enough to do overnight outside? Rather than having to stick boots in your freezer. Outdoors may actually be better because a freezer might be too cold.

How about them Patriots?

Now is dam near unanimous. Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all time.

Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all time.

He may have the hottest wife among QB's, but we'll see about the "best QB of all time."

I always liked that song. Like so much pop music I liked, it seem to come out of nowhere. Incidental background. Nostalgic muzak at places that served alcohol.

Good thing I never had any idea what the band looked like, though.

Would have made a difference, probably, unfortunately.

There was a beautiful full moon last night of Friday the thirteenth.

It was beautiful last night. We have large french doors on our bedroom that overlook the river and because of the new heater in our room making it lovely toasty warm, the windows are dripping with condensation unless we have the drapes open. So....the beautiful moonlight streams into the window. I got up last night about midnight and looked at the light glistening off of the river (which is up over the banks right now) and the snow below. Beautiful. Calm. Peaceful.

Here are some views that I took some years ago of a winter sunrise so you get the idea of how pretty is is.

It has been clear and very cold for the last few weeks so the skies are crystal clear and the planets and stars are incredibly bright because we have very little ambient light to compete with the Heavens.

Since we are expecting more snow for about 5 days beginning Thursday and will be housebound...again :-)...I'm planning meals and cooking. Hey a gal has to have some hobbies besides knitting and irritating people on the internet during those housebound days.

For the first time ever we are interested in watching the Inauguration.... of PRESIDENT TRUMP!! I am going to make a steamed and roasted long island duckling in celebration and try my hand at creme brulee using a propane torch to crystallize the sugar. The broth from the steaming makes a good base for a shrimp wonton soup.

Chick did say open thread.....so there.

Incredible colors in those winter sunrise pictures, DBQ. It's as though nature is pushing red beyond what red can do. There's an oil color, Alizarin Crimson, all painters know about it, that is the only way to approach that note of hysteria in red.

I remember watching Kennedy's inauguration - I lived 30 miles from DC at the time and what I remember was how cold it was and how deep the snow was. Ah yes, the snows of our youth.

I also remember my old man grumbling about how hats went out of fashion after that. That man did like his hats, but in an instant they were passe. So it goes.

Hey - does this mean I can get a comb-over now? Will Trump make comb-overs great again?

We'll finally be able to grab some gusto when Trump's elected. Grab all the gusto you can.

P.S. A German friend told me: "No German would ever name his beer Schlitz.

Gorgeous photos, DBQ. Especially the first one. It has real fire and ice contrast.

Remember at Kennedy's inauguration how bright the winter light was and how Frost couldn't read his poem and Kennedy got up and tried to shade the paper Frost was reading off? Maybe that's not what happened but that's how I remember it. Touching moment.

Thanks Chick and Ricpic

When I took the first photo it looked to me like the river was on fire. I, luckily, caught it just right because that effect didn't last for very long. Timing IS everything.

Sixty Grit said...

It truly is - I take pictures of sunrises and sunsets and the effects change within seconds.

I remember reading about Ansel Adams taking his famous picture of moonrise at Hernandez New Mexico - he got one shot, went to take another and just like that the sunlight on the crosses in the cemetery was gone.

In a word, DBQ, you done good.

Also, it never dawned on me that we could link to our own pictures here. Hmm...

What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the winter time. It is the shadow that runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.

What is life?

Quote from David Wong.

“... life is a flickering candle we all carry around. A gust of wind, a meaningless accident, a microsecond of carelessness, and it's out. Forever.”

From his book John Dies at the End. Probably one of the weirdest and most retarded books I've ever read. Good quote, however.

Good one, DBQ - that should be a blurb on the dust jacket.
