"Being offended doesn't work any more. Throwing insults doesn't work. Any. More."

" We don't debate anymore because the left won the cultural war. So if you're on the right you're a freak, you're evil, you're racist, you're stupid you are a basket of deplorables. How do you think people are going to vote if you talk to them like that? When has anyone been persuaded by being insulted or labeled?"

"They can't admit what they think, they're not allowed to. The left won't allow them to. We have made people unable to articulate their position for fear of being shut down. (...) Every time someone on the left has said 'You mustn't say that,' they are contributing to this culture."

"Being offended doesn't work any more. Throwing insults doesn't work. Any. More."

If you go to Breitbart you'll see that Lena Dunham just had a meltdown. How does that relate to this post? At one point, talking about how she felt at the moment in the evening when Hillary's defeat became undeniable, Dunham says "I couldn't understand why everything was falling apart." It was falling apart because the Left, in the person of its leader and its followers, was unable to stifle its strongest emotion: contempt for half the nation. And apparently the Left, in the likes of Dunham, remains too stupid to realize that the open expression of such contempt is the surefire way to rouse the sleeping giant into payback. Well, at least there's a window open for now, before the giant goes back to sleep, to undo some of the damage the Left has done to the country it hates.

Hate seeking harbingers of hypocrisy.
As I said in another thread: Let them speak. And rage and weep and holler and moan and insult and demean and deny. The great gift of freedom of speech: You can tell who the assholes really are.

I can be sad about people not trying as hard to be kind as they used to do, but I don't blame them at all, because the demands for compliance never end and being kind is not enough.

I've observed a sweet lady take the time to explain with love that the response of a couple of kind young men that she knows, and *knows* to be wonderful young men, to being constantly accused of guilt for their gender and race was to go alt-right. And the response was that if they weren't racist the false accusations would not have changed their behavior and that the truth was that they had always been racist, it had simply been brought to the surface.

It seems that "listen and understand" is only for special occasions.

I spend quite a lot of time reassuring myself that the number of people who are so immune to any possible self-reflection are very small. There are more people all the time stepping up to repudiate those who insist that kindness is hate because it is mere kindness.

If Trump winning cause them so much pain... you would think that would chasten them into not treating the opposition as something less than human... but no. They double down.

Amartel, I believe, had linked it in the thread below. I'd seen it before and had transcribed part of it, so I grabbed that and put it up.

I saw it on Ace. Lone voice of (semi-) reason in the progressive woods.

Another quote from that book that seems appropriate..

"Nihilism as a state of soul is revealed not so much in the lack of firm beliefs but in a chaos of instincts or passions" - Allan Bloom 📚

People are sick of the perpetually offended spoiling everything for everybody else.

That's why so many people like Trump.

A heck of a lot of decent people were called bitter clingers. And deplorables. Infidels. And misogynists. And homophobes. And racists. And haters.

It all accumulated, and changed how a good many people voted.
