tacos

This image is three short of 2,000 views on Flickr.

Ever make a taco that 2,000 looked at? And that's just Flickr. These are posted on Phobucket too. And that's where Google images gets their food-related images because they own Photbucket. Unfortunately they no longer keep stats.

They are the simplest things in the world to make except for assembling diced fresh ingredients, and about as inexpensive as you can get.

Any protein will do, including fish. Although, I recommend avoiding any prepackaged taco flavoring mix intended for ground beef, those things are a ripoff and marketed to people lacking confidence in their own flavoring ability. Also every single mixture of chili powder that I've tried, usually a mixture of lame and old chile powder and garlic powder, gave me the worst heartburn ever. And I mean it. Best stick your own concoction. Whatever you use that you already like, nearly any leftover protein at all, pot roast, ribs, pork, chicken, steak, hamburger, Thanksgiving turkey, salmon, trout, anything, is  guaranteed to be great.

While this photo below from from a different set, and with homemade taco shells, that I think is better, has only a little over 1,000 views. What a bummer! :-(

If you click on either photo and end up on Flicker, then clicking either left or right through the photos, you will pick up some great ideas for dinner. Looking back from the top one going left, I amaze myself thinking, "What? What? What is that? Oh, that's cheese and bacon gnocchi. Man, that looks good." I forget about all these great ideas. By all reasoning I really should weight 300 LBS.

Tonight I'm making cole slaw with Napa cabbage, red bell pepper, and grapes and one jalapeño. I salted the ingredients and put them in a colander over a bowl and I can't believe the amount of water released. I drank it and it tasted salty and dreadful.

Meat inside dough. It's universal. Like kreplach.

The Kreplach Joke

Once upon a time there was a little boy who hated kreplach. Every time he saw a piece of kreplach in the soup he screamed, "Aaaaah, kreplach!" So his mother decided to teach him not to be afraid of kreplach. She took him into the kitchen and rolled out some dough. "Just like a pancake," she said. "Just like a pancake," said the little boy. Then she took a piece of meat and rolled it into a ball. "Just like a meatball," she said. "Just like a meatball," said the little boy. Then she rolled up the meat in the dough and held it up. "Just like a dumpling," she said. "Just like a dumpling," said the little boy. Then she dropped it into the soup and put it in front of the little boy, and he screamed "Aaaaah, kreplach!"
