Bruce Springsteen: 'Donald Trump is undermining the entire Democratic tradition'

[majuscule added for emphasis]

Well of course Trump is undermining Democrat traditions. Traditions like cheating at the ballot box.

Sheesh, Bruce -- you've forgotten your roots.

And the poets down here don't write nothing at all
They just stand back and let it all be

Even better, he's playing the 37 dimensional stealth ninja virtual chess.

He's already got Pat Smith at the debate and Danney Williams, who now wants a DNA sample from Willie, may also be there.

edutcher said...

Trump also has Sarah Palin, Pissy's brother, Malik, and Leslie Millwee, who's accused Willie of sexual assault on several occasions while she was a reporter, at the debate.

Make that 137 dimensional stealth ninja virtual chess.

That Brucie is some deep thinker!

Remember that scene in Moonstruck where the Cher character slaps the Nicolas Cage character across the face and says "Snap out of it?" That's what Trump should do to all the idiot undecideds tonight. Don't pull punches about what the continued invasions, plural, will do to the place they think is immune to what WAR By INVASION has done to every other place on earth.

Trump is doing better than I expected so far tonight.

Leland said...

Well if Bruce is right, then that's a reason right there to vote for Trump. Give me back my Republic!!!

bagoh20 said...

Trump is doing exactly what I suggested this morning: reminding everyone that Hillary and her prescriptions for the country are directly responsible for what is wrong and failed in our country. It's the right strategy, hopefully not too late.

edutcher said...

Well, no NFL game tonight so, if big guns are brought to bear, this is the night to do it.

PS Reagan's only debate in '80 was on 10/28 when he was down 8 (which poll is saying the Beast is up today? [FWIW one poll was done with twice as many Demos as Rs and she was still only up 5]).

Trump is defeating Hillary small handedly.

ricpic said...

I've got the same sinking feeling I had after the first debate. Hope I'm wrong. She's so obviously false to the bone but Wallace never stops her from filibustering and I'm afraid millions will think her stream of words is impressive.

Trump did well, but missed a few opportunities too. Whether it is enough? I doubt it, but hope it is. I hope ed is right.

bagoh20 said...

Best he's ever been. Thumbs up from everyone in my house, from Obama voters, Romney voters, and never-voted-before 20 year olds. He needs to keep pressing these points and pick up some he left lying on the table. She is what's wrong. He is something else, and that's enough to win. Few people want more of what we have now.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

I noticed the prep. One thing is back in Reagan's time we did not have so much early voting. I also worry about the battleground states and (yes) the voting fraud.

edutcher said...

If bag thinks Trump won, he probably did. The Donald's toughest critic here besides (someone).

ric grades on points like a polemics club thing (correct me if I'm wrong) and that's never been the way to view these things. Think show biz, think audition.

People listening to the radio in '60 thought Nixon killed Kennedy. A lot of people thought Ford killed Bucketmouth until the network "analysts" told everybody they were wrong next morning.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

I don't know of any year when the debates won it. Bucketmouth said they did in '76, but that was the nets' spin for him.

And it's easy to second guess when you're at home watching, no pressure. One point to keep in mind is, with Frumpty, there are so many avenues of attack and it probably physically impossible to hit them all.

One thing I've noticed Trump hit that made a lot of blogs is talking about the Ozark Mafia as the criminal enterprise it is. That alone may sink in with a lot of people.

Well I am quite impressed that bags thinks that Trump did well. I hope he is right.

Unfortunately I did not see it. I don't have cable and I will watch the youtube or the posting of it later.

Also I was out getting a manicure and pedicure.

Living well is the best revenge.

I am also hard at work at my new magnum opus. I posted the first chapter at Trooper York blog for those of you who have access there. I was inspired as I was walking through the industrial streets of Brooklyn. I think it is kind of fun.

I felt it isn't appropriate for Lem's place. Also since most of my literary offerings are ignored and I guess people don't care all that much for them.

I think I am going to turn more of my attention to that. Especially when the country is in good hands when Trump becomes President.

Going to Florida put a bug in my ear again. I am tired of the Mishegoss.

It is time to try to have some fun. I think the country is in good hands with Donald Trump. He will Make America Great Again. I have no doubt.

Trooper York said...

I had my feet done before we went to Florida and it was revelation. I had it shaved and pumiced with all the callouses taken off so I could walk painlessly in flip flops. Now I am walking around and not acting like I am walking on hot coals.

bagoh20 said...

Never had a pedicure or a manicure, I'm a DIY guy on everything. I spend a lot of time barefoot. As a kid, I was the fastest runner in my town, and I always went barefoot. I bet other kids I could outrun them in gravel lots. They figured I couldn't even finish. Easy money for a kid with leather feet. I do my feet with an orbital sander, usually 220 grit, but if I'm in a hurry I'll use 80 grit. Works really well and just takes seconds. You gotta be careful not to stay in one spot too long, or you will draw blood. Leaves your feet as smooth as fine furniture.

Joe Biden, America's Putin said...

I've never had a pedicure. I don't want anyone touching my feet with those icky utensils that were just used on some gross person with toejam.
They are supposed to sterilize, because if they don't, there are infections. The very thought inspires me to take care of own feet. I like to keep my toenails painted, and I keep them painted with the same color. "Not so Bora Bora Boring Pink"

I haven't had a manicure in decades. (same reasons) When I was oh 16 or 17 I went with a girlfriend to get gel-claw fake fingernails. Sexy! Walked out to the car, opened the car door, and they all broke off. 65 bucks down the drain.

bagoh20 said...

Although I think Trump did well, it was well only compared to himself. He missed great opportunities on nearly every point to send it home. He just doesn't have the chops or the knowledge to debate well. Cruz, Fiorina, Rubio, or Christie all would have put this woman away last night with all the extra material that's come out since the primary. I mean, it has been a huge treasure dump of bad stuff for Hillary and Dems in general the last month. Any one of them would have sealed the deal during these debates, and not had to spend any time or momentum defending against silly sexual bullshit, or a endless dumb statements they made on every subject. Hillary is obviously a weak sitting duck, but Trump can't keep the target centered and squeeze it off. I can't believe how vulnerable this woman is and is still ahead and likely to win. This thing is as close to a forfeit as we could have done.

bagoh20 said...

If Trump loses, his brand is shot. He will be disowned so fast that it'll make Pee Wee Herman look like George Burns.

Joe Biden, America's Putin said...

I hope so, Bags.

From Brando at TOP:

"Trump has as recently as Sandy Hook praised Obama's gun control proposals. This is a coddled celebrity know-nothing with a Jenny McCarthyesque mentality who decided to pretend to be a right winger long enough to run for president. And it worked on just enough people that the GOP is looking at disaster in a year that should have been their due.

Don't worry, we'll hear plenty about how Trump getting 34% of the vote is much better than any of his 19 primary opponents would have done, and the GOP deserved to lose big anyway because they just want open borders to please their international financier masters. Whatever helps them sleep at night."

Sums it all up.

bagoh20 said...

wait - I just said "Bora Bora" up there. Who's with on a 4-8 year trip to Bora Bora?

Trooper York said...

Well I am glad we are back to normal. I mean I was very disoriented when bags actually said that Trump did well in the debate. I am glad to see that he and April are back telling why Trump can't win. Why Trump shouldn't win. Why any other conventional Washington Generals pussy would be winning going away. I mean it is not like the corrupt media would cover up Hillary's crime if someone else was the nominee. It is not like they would start some bullshit controversy like binders full of women or cutting some kids hair in high school.

Bringing in quotes from places that we agreed not to reference because they didn't
want to be mentioned on this blog is particularly egregious. Quoting people who we never heard of as though they were savants is very convincing.

Trooper York said...

Once again youse guys totally miss the point. Trump is only the expression of the deplorable's discontent not the reason for it. He is not going anywhere. His future as a candidate is over of course because he is too old to run. But he has a platform. A bully pulpit. If he loses and starts a news channel by gutting FOX he will have a lot of power.

The next guy or girl is going to be a lot slicker and more dangerous. It could be someone like Tom Brady. Or Curt Shilling. Or Ivanka for that matter. Trump will be a king maker. Many of predictions will come true if he is not elected. There will be massive immigration and amnesty. One sided trade deals will be signed off on by Hillary. She will attempt to gut the Second Amendment. She will continue the war on religion and religious people. It will get worse and worse. If he loses (which I still don't think is gonna happen) Trump will be proven right and will be saying I told you so every night on his top rated network.

The deplorable movement will not go away. It will just get a whole lot meaner.

Trooper York said...

At least you can comfort yourself with the thought that you did all you could to bring Trump down by flooding the zone with your criticism and attacks about nonsense while ignoring Hillary's actual crimes. It should give you a warm feeling if Hillary wins that nothing is gonna change. You can continue to pretend that you actual oppose her.

Straight out of the Washington Generals playbook.

The Dude said...

Troop wrote "She will continue the war on religion and religious people."

With one glaring exception.

Trooper York said...

True. They will be handed the knife they will use to behead us. We will be told we just have to understand.

Oh and the savages rioting? She will educate the stupid white people about why they deserve it and should just shut up and take it. And by the way. You have to turn your guns in like they do in Australia.

How do you think that is going to play where you live Sixty? Are youse guys going to accept the results of the election?

bagoh20 said...

Trump was at his best last night, but his best isn't good enough at this stuff to beat even the worst Democrat candidate of our lifetimes. And it doesn't matter what you fall back on as the point of his candidacy if the objective of nominating him wasn't first and foremost to beat Hillary. After all this, he's polling right about where he was against her before he got nominated. In other words, like the Dems with Obamacare, you ignored the clear sensible warnings and charged ahead anyway. His base was never big enough, and he refused to do anything to expand it. He didn't either because he was temperamentally incapable, or he believed his own hype.

I still have hope for him, but I also still leave cookies and milk for Santa.

Trooper York said...

Well bags you had a choice. We all have a choice. America has a choice. I have faith that they will reject Hillary's criminality. We of course shall see what happens.

But if we lose it will be a combination of things. Of course Trumps failures and mistakes and shortcomings will be a big part of it. Maybe most of it. But the stab in the back tactics of the Republican and "Conservative" establishment will also be a yuge part of it. You know what?
I won't forget. The rest of deplorable's won't forget. Trump is just a space on the continuum that went from the Tea Party to Sarah Palin to Trump. It will continue.

The Republican party is dead if Trump loses. It has lost more than 50% of it's base. As ed has said they are going the way of the Whigs. The deplorables will not be reconciled to the likes of Paul Ryan and Ted Cruz. This is a new paradigm. The fallout will be severe. In every way.

bagoh20 said...

The right side of the spectrum is very dissatisfied and disappointed with the GOP, no doubt, and with good reason, but Trump was a dead end detour that missed the sweetspot and had appeal that was too narrow, and I think that's true even if he wins. Even as President, he wouldn't have enough support. He is at least as divisive as Obama has been, and probably infuriates even more people. Leading a free democratic nation rightly requires having a majority willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, even when they are not sure what you are doing is right. It requires trust. Trump doesn't do that for enough of us, and neither will Hillary. The very thing that got Trump people so excited, was also what alienated too many, and that was not necessary to win or to effect change.

Both parties know they fucked this one up, and both will go back to more broad-based candidates, with even the winning party knowing it just got lucky because the losing party screwed up even worse. The winner probably won't get 50% of a very low turnout. Winning that is not what either party wants to count on again. The next election will support candidates nothing like either Clinton or Trump. People will avoid a redo of this like the plague. No crooks, no clowns.

bagoh20 said...

Quote me in 2020, dead or alive.

Trooper York said...

I think you are just totally wrong. This election is part of a continuum. Populism and Pro Americanism will not die away for a complacent middle of the road George W Bush/Clinton. The Republican base is split from the party. The Bernie Bro base will be split from the Democrats if Hillary wins and governs as the corrupt Wall Street Criminal that she really is. Both factions will be looking for a populist alternative. It will be there. Without Trumps negatives and foibles.

It is just not going to go back to business as usual. Trump upset that apple cart. That alone made his run worthwhile.

Trooper York said...

I don't know if that populist will be center/right or center/left. I suspect a center/left populist who stills respects gun rights and religious rights would command a majority. I again predict it will be someone we are not thinking of right now. Just like nobody thought Trump would get the nomination at this time last election.

I think Trumps support would be crucial. He has to find someone. Maybe a war hero. An athlete. A TV personality. But definitely not a lawyer or a politician. That is where this is going.

Joe Biden, America's Putin said...

2020 - "No Crooks, No Clowns."

bagoh20 said...

"It is just not going to go back to business as usual. Trump upset that apple cart. That alone made his run worthwhile."

It's a lack of imagination to only see a nativist/populist or a RINO as the possibilities. Trump is not the cause, but the symptom of the dissatisfaction on the right.

It's not enough to be angry and passionate. You have to have a winning alternative. You have to win over people who do not share your passion. A passionate vote is still just one vote. It doesn't count double.

The Democrats will not make the mistake of someone like Hillary again, and she will not win reelection. Republicans will choose someone articulate that can make the case for smaller government with intelligence, conviction and discipline. After the next four years show the terminal illness that is big central government, that person will win in a landslide, and could have this time, but the next one is in the bag. The real value of the Trump run was not showing what will work, but rather what is insufficient to win a majority.

Joe Biden, America's Putin said...

Winning is more important than a dead-end temper tantrum with a New York liberal playboy with no disciple and horrid speaking skills. I doubt Trump has ever read the constitution.

That Anger - Troop - gonna get you absolutely nothing. Less than nothing. Hillary.

Trooper York said...

You don't get it bags. The populist sentiment is a class thing. Not a left right thing. The right combination of a celebrity populist without too much baggage could get both the Trumpers and the Bernie Bros. You make the mistake that some bland centrist bullshit artist is going to be the answer. The process of radicalization has proceeded a piece on both sides. Trump put his finger on it but his limitations stopped him from fully capitalizing on it where someone else could succeed in a big way.

Trooper York said...

One example that I can think of is a Tammy Duckworth type. Not her per se as I think she is damaged goods. But someone like her. A populist wounded war vet who is outside of politics. She could bridge the gap if see talks the populist economic talk of Trump, hitting Wall Street and the crooked duopoly and still protecting America. Tom Cotton is more of an outside possibility as he is too conservative for the general electorate. A cipher like a Tom Brady or Kurt Schilling would resonate in a big way.

A politician like Paul Ryan or Ted Cruz or Tim Kaine or Mike Pence will not work in any real way. I think we are past that. We are certainly past that for the Whigs who are dead but don't know enough to fall down yet.

Trooper York said...

This is a watershed election on both sides. If Hillary wins it will be a disaster. There will be criminal activity. Investigation after investigation. Impeachment. It will be the worse it has ever been. Unless we get lucky and she croaks quickly. There is always hope for that.

Trooper York said...

If Trump wins it will be very hard for him as well. That is until he weeds out the members of his party that are pussies and replaces them with reliable populists. Which could very easily happen if things break the right way.

bagoh20 said...

I for one do not want someone to win by promising free stuff. Bernie supporters had no idea what they were for other than free stuff, paid for by taxes and lost jobs. In other words, they were stupid and uneducated. That makes me an elite, I guess. Lots of populists are pretty similar. They want someone to make competition go away, to turn back the clock, to make their mistakes not matter, to recreate 1950's America, as if it was a TV show. To make all the other people of the world stupid farmers again entirely dependent on us for everything, and to make Elvis the King again. It ain't happening, and I expect they will go to the grave wondering why not. It's not that hard to understand. Sure our leadership has sucked, and we could have been smarter, but the basic problem is that we are in competition against other people who are no longer uneducated helpless subsistence cultures. Time to stand up, dust off your rust belt, and get to work upgrading yourself, taking risks, getting in the fight. The Bernie supporters and populists who share their economic illiteracy would destroy this nation faster than the Democrats.

I don't care about your class if it doesn't restrict my opportunity. I hope everyone gets rich, just leave me alone. Class is nothing - power is the problem. Some of these bureaucratic control freaks that screw up our lives are solidly middle class, and they still do enormous damage, because of one simple fact: they work for the government.

I'm not sure there are enough people left who understand the value of real freedom over security and a full belly, but that's the only chance we have to excel again. We could lead the world again as we did once though freedom, risk taking, and respect for hard work, and innovation, instead of looking for payback and a winning general for the temptations of the no-win, scorched-earth distractions of class warfare.

bagoh20 said...

If Hillary wins and the Republicans hold the House and Senate, and there are endless investigations, and expose's, and impeachment, that sounds just fine by me. The more we see of our corrupt government the better. Maybe can get a majority to vote against what they say they hate, instead of doubling down again and again.

Good thing we dodged him. We didn't really want to beat Hillary. nah - we wanted a delusional whig temper tantrum based on delusion and manipulation by the leftwing media who promoted Trump and got what they wanted.

chickelit said...

@April: This time around wasn't Rubio's time because of immigration. We have a philosophical problem in America: The philosophical problem is open borders vs. no open borders. Rubio had pragmatic answers to a philosophical problem. That won't do this time around. Rubio did say [paraphrasing] "first we secure the borders" but he didn't say it strongly enough. He was indistinguishable from Clinton in philosophy.
