What were you taught in school that you later learned was completely untrue?

Our gym teacher told us your body temperature increases by 40 degrees when you run. When we pointed out you go to the hospital w a fever over 103, she told us it was different, and to stop acting smug.

I heard one teacher in Massachusetts say that in Winter the optimal thermostat setting was 62 degrees.

I never found out one way or the other.
