"Resident Facing Fines For Too Many Trump Signs"

"A Trump supporter in Haverhill is facing stiff fines for having too many signs in his front yard. But Rick Early is standing his ground, literally."
“This is my property, and I have a constitutional right to express my opinions,” said Early. “They’re not coming down.”

The city has an ordinance prohibiting political signs that total more than 32 square feet. Early’s signs add up to over 300 square feet.

“He’s way in excess of what’s allowed, that’s all he’s been cited for is that he’s over the signage that’s allowed by city ordinance,” city building inspector Dick Osborne said.

He has the right to festoon his property as he wishes ... unless he's in an HOA. Or the zoning government equivalent of an HOA.

We are talking the People's Republic, after all.

I take it that Haverhill is zoned progressive? No icky poors or patriots?

Of course it does.

Chaser: "If you think Early is over the top, there’s a man in a town over who covered his business in anti-Clinton signs, including a three-dimensional jail cell with a life-sized Hillary doll clad in an orange inmate uniform inside it."
Needs updating to include a "nurse" with an "inhaler" for "allergies."

Haverhill is a dump. Yet expensive real estate compared to red states. Compared to the rest of Boston a major bargain, but your commute to the city is hell, and you have to tell people you live in Haverhill

The city ordinance, not ordnance, does not trump Constitutional 1A protection against political speech. That means if this mans yard occupies political speech, they can't curtail it due to it's size. He'll win.

City/county governments often limit political speech by having "content neutral" and/or "viewpoint neutral" limits for the ostensible purpose of aesthetics. Like an ordinance saying you have to take your signs down within 48 hours after the election or an ordinance limiting the number of signs you can have. It's understandable how the issue comes up; would you want to be next to a house covered in Hillary propaganda? Nauseating. Gilleo is the USSC case on point. I like this guy. He wants to litigate and there's minimal chance he'll get a decision before the election and even if he does he can appeal. I worry that some goon will come by and set everything on fire. Better set up some surveillance gear, pronto.

Ordnance on the front lawn would be a different matter altogether!

We just bought a townhouse. Last night I was reading the voluminous rules. One rule is no political signs. Now, since my bride was governed by the Hatch Act, we went decades w/o being allowed to have any political signs, bumper stickers, etc. No big deal as we are not the type anyway. But, I think I'm going to go Rodney Dangerfield and put up some big, blowup Christmas decorations. I hate rules.

I flew to Newark today. They are now making people w/ new Samsung phones turn them completely off while on a plane. Apple couldn't be more pleased.

I just read Hillary's doctor report. The end of the report is A BIG tell. "She has not developed any new medical conditions this year" except for an ear infection and pneumonia. BIG TELL!
