"Homeless Mother Who Sent Six-Year-Old Son To Better School..."

"...In The Wrong Town Sent To Prison For Five Years"
Tonya McDowell sent her son to an elementary school in Norwalk, Connecticut, instead of her home city of Bridgeport.

The 34-year-old, who was homeless when she was charged with felony larceny last year, said she wanted the best education possible for the boy.

McDowell last week entered her plea at Norwalk Superior Court under the Alford Doctrine, which means she does not admit guilt but concedes the state has enough evidence to convict her.

Authorities told the hearing that she used a babysitter's address to enroll her son in kindergarten in Norwalk when he should have attended schools in Bridgeport, her last permanent address.

Next she goes to Debtors' Prison.

Funny how Draconic these tolerant, compassionate Lefties are.

This is good point Trump makes that I know resonates w/ black people. Hillary is backed by the NEA and they are Nazi's. Black people actually see the hypocrisy of Dems vis a vis them not wanting to give them a choice in where they send their schools. I would like to see Trump get specific. "These wealthy Dems won't send their kids to public schools. I sent my kids to private schools. I could afford it. You can't. But, I want to give you black parents CHOICES in where you send your kids. Hillary gives you NO CHOICE."

A little CT. info. Bridgeport is CT's Newark. Norwalk is not great, but better than Bridgeport.

The rape guy, Brock Turner, that's getting harassed for getting only 6 months, only did 3 months.

Outrageous.

This unbelievable.

They should put the administrators in jail.

I would abolish public education.

Give parents vouchers and let them send their kids to their tribes schools.

So school choice worked and government is pissed because they don't want competition.

If she is/was homeless what address do they expect her to use? A PO Box. You don't live there. The various homeless shelters she may have frequented? The address of the box under the bridge that she is living in?

So she chose her sister's address for her son. Now that she is in jail. Does the kid still get to live at the sister's home for real or does he now have to put down the jail as his address for school.

What a Kafkaesque type of scenario.

School choice should be a right of all. Not just the wealthy. School funding should also be UNtethered from property taxes. As it is now,in the wealthy school districts with high property values, the home owners pay for the local schools and of course those schools will be the best funded. Inner cities with poverty and declining values of homes are terribly funded and of course NO one wants to go to those schools. Yet. The inner city children are as shackled to those failing schools as much as if they were shackled to the plantations of the old South. Charter schools and vouchers are a sane alternative.

oopsy, Kafkaesque is the exact right word. The "system" which we're told "cares", showed how little it cared about this family. This is the bean counters' work.

I don't know about public education (it served the country pretty well for about 400 years), but I would outlaw teachers' unions and whatever unions the adminstrators belong to (SEIU, whatever; you know they're just as mobbed up as the teachers).

Unbelievable!

"She also pleaded guilty to four counts of sale of narcotics, which will be included in her prison sentence.

In a separate case, she pleaded guilty on February 7 to selling drugs."

Oh. The larceny charge for stealing school funds was just a little add-on by the prosecutor.

What am I missing here?

Connecticut takes poor people trying to get in its good schools seriously!
