Trump lands in Mexico

Washington Post: U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump landed here in his private jet Wednesday for a hastily arranged meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, according to local media reports, marking Trump’s first formal international trip as the Republican nominee to a country where he is broadly despised for his vilification of illegal immigrants.

No word of a gun fight yet... stay tuned.

You gotta love it.

Apparently, Pena's been reading the tea leaves and figures he needs to talk to The Donald.

Trump looks like the guy in charge (Pena agrees on the "need" for a wall) and the Beast?

Well, meet Frumpty Dumpty.

Oh, and she's losing with 2 groups she can't afford to, Hispanics and women (this is according to Disney/WaPo).

Actually, I should be there with some of my pistolas. Is that a word?

Trump played him like a guitar in a mariachi band.

Hillary was forty minutes late as usual because they had to drug her up before she could appear.

Yes, my friend, that's what I wanted to say. Pistolas.

The Dude said...

A couple of points, neatly neglected by the press - Trump does not vilify illegals nearly as much as Mexico does. Try sneaking into Mexico and see what happens.

Also, to conflate "illegals" with Mexicans is so 20th century - now we get them from all over the world, states, failed states, ISIS, you name it.

But, as always, trying to defend one's nation is "right wing" and "xenophobic". What a crock.

And, as I have written before, when I was a roofer working with illegals from Mexico I nearly fell off the roof when I learned that it is "la pistola". Feminine. Right. Is one to presume that it is "el hot pocket", too?

edutcher said...

My understanding is, if it goes into something, it masculine, but, if something goes into it, it's feminine - and it can get very convoluted. The table is feminine because the chair (masculine) goes between its legs

Pistols were almost as large as muskets, originally, but the word, pistole, in French, was a denomination of currency, so it may have derived from something like that.

Question is how this will play with Mexican-Americans and Hispanics in general. I'm guessing a plus for Trump no matter how desperately the Left pins the bigot label on him.

ndspinelli said...

Why do some feel compelled to make Trump a super hero. I watched the presser. Both men comported themselves well. I really think this Trump super hero stuff is creepy. He did a good job. He didn't "play" anyone that I saw. And, he wasn't played. It was a good day for Trump.

edutcher said...

Maybe because the last President to speak to Mexico in such a fashion was James K Polk.

BTW, the Lefties are ticked that Trump didn't fly into Mexico on his usual plane, given El Chapo's threats to kill him.

Lines like - Maybe A Mexican Drug Cartel Will Shoot "TRUMP PLANE" Out Of The Sky (You're Welcome America).

ndspinelli said...

Hillary looked petty blasting Trump for making the trip.

Trooper York said...

Of course he played him. The Mexican President went from calling him Hitler to saying he was going to work with him to better both countries. It is the art of the deal. Trump is a salesman. He is selling his program. The Mexican President is getting ready to buy. He is not a super hero. He is a salesman. He can close the deal.

Trooper York said...

If you don't think that Trump manipulated and played this situation to his advantage you are and even bigger moron than I thought you were.

Hillary looks like a sputtering out of touch fool.

Look at how she wasted millions upon millions on ads and the race is tightening up. Just the way Bush wasted millions in the primary.

This is a new paradigm. The media doesn't have a clue.

Trooper York said...

His best move was to exclude the press. Notice how they squealed. Of course it doesn't matter because Trump can just say "Hey why aren't you after Hillary for not having a press conference. Fuck off losers."

ndspinelli said...

Evi, I have said it was a good day several times already. For some, that's not enough. Maybe a big day? Time will tell. Let's see if he can parlay it w/ his speech in Phoenix tonight. I hope he does.

ndspinelli said...

Evi, I hate all bullshit. Not just political spin. All bullshit.

edutcher said...

Again, this makes Trump look Presidential in a big way, but also like a winner (I won't use the "I" word) because Pena is the one who wanted the meeting. It gives the appearance of Trump operating on the world stage easily and someone whom at least Mexico needs to make contact with because his chances are looking better - the latest round of polls (surprisingly) look good for him and bad for Frumpty.

Hillary hiding out, for whatever reason, is starting to look like McCain suspending his campaign after the market crash.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Nick, chill buddy. I thought you wanted Crooked Hillary to lose? We know ed and Troop will be downright unbearable if Trump manages to win this thing, but that is ok (I know you have some bad blood going on with Troop, but I do like them both very much, even if I occasionally have disagreements with them on points). For the sake of this country and because I would rather see all the lefties lose their shit on November 9, I really hope Trump wins this thing. And so should you. And this visit today was a big step in the right direction for Trump.

ndspinelli said...

ed, I watched Hillary speaking to the American Legion. The response was tepid @ best. She went there as an in your face, but came off looking bad, and as I said before, petty. She knows she has to lay low because the more people see her, the more they dislike her. She made a mistake being @ an American Legion convention when Trump was being a diplomat. It was a good day for Trump and a bad day for her. That needs to continue.

ndspinelli said...

And Evi, ed and I are cool. We butt heads then have good exchanges on non political threads.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Chill Nick. There is no point raining on Trump when he does something smart and this was smart. It is good politics and he made Hillary look like the doddering fool she is. ed and Troop are right today.

Tomorrow, Trump may fuck up. I hope he does a good job on the speech this evening.

I wonder if trump hasn't walked into a trap.

Here's what I'm afraid of. Trump gets into the debate and starts talking about "My good friends in Mexico blah, blah". "I went to Mexico and i can deal with Pena, etc.".

Then the next day Pena announces he's supporting Hillary and attacks Trump.

Wham. As long as he was dissing Mexico it didn't matter what Pena said, but now that he's making out like they're big friends. Pena can stab him in the back.

ndspinelli said...

Where did I rain on Trump??? Please, point out the words where I rained on Trump. Is saying he did "Good" several times "raining." Don't be a butt boy for the bra salesman. Think for yourself. But, before we go any further please tell me EXACTLY where I "rained" on him. I need to know.

rcocean said...

Some people on this board seem to have their own agenda. Its not about Trump, its about being the contrarian or posing as the smartest guy in room.

But I'm just speculating - and maybe I'm wrong. And it doesn't really matter anyway. To each his own.

All that matters is beating Hillary. I'm never going to forgive Beck, National Review, and all the phony establishment conservatives for trying to elect her.

They are dead to me.

ndspinelli said...

rc, I wouldn't overthink this. Even if what you say might happen, does happen. Then Trump wears Pena's scorn as a Badge of Honor. I think that might be even better.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

No Nick you never did say it was raining. Actually you were going into your no spin zone about Troop crowing about Trump's glorious day in Mexico.

Have a Negroni.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

rcocean, well said.

edutcher said...

The scheduling was unavoidable because the meeting was a last minute thing.

Problem for her is twofold - first, Benghazi and all that it symbolizes, and second, her well-documented disdain for the military, which the AL knows.

Her absence from public view is looking more and more like McCain suspending his campaign after the market crash. Add to it the the fact it fuels more rumors about her health, and, for whatever reason, she dresses like the Pillsbury Doughboy, which only makes her an object of ridicule.

Now the polls (surprisingly) are turning against her (for now) with women disliking her 52 - 45, as well as swing state polls looking more competitive, which is a stunner, as it comes from the nets and major dailies.

It may be (take this with a pitcher of margaritas' worth of salt) the media is seeing it's hopeless, much like the managers of those of his major competitors did a year ago. and they're looking to salvage what credibility they can.

If the bandidos double-cross him, it just makes his hardline position more valid.

UPDATE: Active vs. Passive:
There were only a few protesters, even though there were efforts on social media to drum up protesting. One protester who did show up — “Maldito Perro” (Damned Dog) — said “These days people protest by clicking ‘like’ or ‘dislike.’ ”

But Mr. Trump showed up in Mexico. And Mrs. Clinton clicked “dislike,” essentially, saying, in Cincinnati: “It certainly takes more than trying to make up for a year of insults and insinuations by dropping in on our neighbors for a few hours and then flying home again.”

Plus, from the comments:
I’m seeing a really big difference these last weeks between Trump and Hillary.

The guy is seemingly everywhere.

A flood in Louisiana? Trump is there.
Riots in Wisconsin? Trump is there.
Invited by foreign President? Trump is there.

Hillary? All I know is she is in Hollywood raising millions or on the east coast raising millions and dancing with Paul McCartney.

He’s turning her into Jeb, isn’t he?

Teenage girls are good at these backhanded, snarky, undercutting type of tactics. The one where you are forced to finally say something nice about "that" girl who you secretly hate because...whatever...she got the guy you really wanted..or made you feel bad or dissed you once at lunch. So you say something nice....but..whammo.....the hit to the knees, the stab to the back. Then the mean girls can say....What? what did I say. All innocent and everything but guilty as hell.

Nick....be better than a teenage girl. I know you can.

I saw Trump's speech just now. Good material and well delivered. He can hold your attention and make his points forcefully. As a public speaker, he's got it all over Hillary. Probably doesn't matter though. I think the only people who watched it are the people who are going to vote for him.......I flipped around to some of the commentary on MSNBC and CNN. The pundits there are in agreement that there are no longer enough white men to swing an election and that Trump's speech will do nothing to woo over minorities and women and smart people like them.

PIstolas are all well and good but a complete outfit takes two crossed bandolera.

And of course a poncho and a broad sombrero.

Maybe I'm thinking of a cartoon and a very fast mouse.

At a shop in Cancun there were framed photographs of historic Mexican politicians and one of the guys actually did looka like that.

Like this: [mexican history, revolutionary]

A whole bunch of them did. In fact one was named Pancho (Villa) I think.

But seriously, Folks, Enrique Peña Nieto

Did you know nieto means grandson?
And peña means rock or boulder?
And Enrique means, um, hang on, it's on the tip of my tongue, um, Rick! That's it

But seriously, Rick Rock Grandson has problems of his own. You see, *one arm akimbo, the other hand offering an invisible cup of air* following a recent massacre and nobody in government held accountable the population considers Peña Nieto corrupt as all the others. This was his chance to be shown standing up to the big mean nasty revolting el gringo. I'm not so sure it worked. And Trump has already discussed at length how he intends to coerce Mexico to pay for border protection. Not that it will actually come about but he did already explain it. If they want to do business, and they do, if they want to continue reaping benefits of free trade, and they do, then it will have to be free and they'll have to put an end to one-way free movement of labor.

For you see, *switches akimbo arms* Free trade means exactly that, free both ways. Give and take. Take and give. Two way lanes. Back and forth. Two way flow. Beneficial to both sides. And not lopsided as we have it.

I sure do like their avocados, though. And their mangos. And the bench I that I paid $800..00 for made in Canada I saw knocked off in Guadalajara and sold in Puerto Vallarta for $250. And where else are you going to buy your Sergio Bustamantes? Huh? Where?

Incidentally, Michael Grant told me that Bustamante owns a condominium at Cañon Verde next to his own, an odd place with Escher like stairs that go up then down then up then down then cornered, then up then down, It's insane. I said I would like to see that because he filled the place with his own uniquely weird art. And Michael said

FORGET IT, CHIP!Just put that out of your mind. They guy absolutely despises Americans. He hates us. Hate, hate, hate, hate, hates, us.

And I'm all, "Whaaaaaat? How can that be? Americans are his best customers. What a dick. And Michael goes, "I don't know. He just does. "

Chip Ahoy said...

So fuck him.

I bought a couple of pieces, and I love them. I gave one to Michael for letting me stay at another of his condos, not the one at Cañon Verde. He refused it. I go, "take it." He goes, "No, I cannot." I go, "Please accept it" He goes "Oh, no, I cannot." I said, "TAKE IT GODDMANIT, WON'T YOU PLEASE LET ME EXPRESS MY APPRECIATION? "

He goes, "Okay. Since you put it that way."

It is a small piece anyway. A cute little statuette of a dolphin blowing water out its blowhole and little boy being lifted by the waterspout. In the soft blue and pink pastel colors Bustamante uses a lot.

And he says its one of his favorite things.

Then at a party a guy was admiring it. I said, "I gave him that."

And he goes, "Oh really? It's Bustamante? I thought it was a bath toy made out of rubber."

Thud.

And I go, "Bastard."

Talk about taking the piss.

DBQ, As you sometimes do, you shot from the hip. I will ask you to point out where I said ANYTHING negative about Trump here. I posed the same question to Evi and he admitted I had not. If you expect me to be part of an adoration society, well that ain't gonna happen. I called out the bra salesman for spinning and saying his hero, kicked Pena's ass. That's spin. I had the temerity to say both Pena and Trump comported themselves well @ the presser. I complimented Trump on both his presser and speech in Phoenix.

It seems that a certain contingent of you rabid folks need someone to punch. April is still commenting on the blog but consciously avoided this thread. She tired of this fucking horseshit! DBQ pointed out the teenage girl syndrome. Look in the mirror.

Finally, when I say something negative there is never ANY fucking doubt. Stop building strawmen, it hurts this blog and keeps people from commenting.

ndspinelli said...

Amartel, Amen! But, stop being negative!!!!!!! LOL

MamaM said...

She tired of this fucking horseshit!

I'm tired of it too. From all quarters. How would you know what April Apple is consciously avoiding, ND? A remark like that is as presumptuous as the presuming you're chiding Trooper for doing. Only chiding is too mild a term for the contempt you've been delivering along with your observations and opinions, and in my opinion, it hurts this blog.

Trooper's contempt is his problem. Your contempt for him is yours.

Contempt is a harsh judge, devoid of compassion, no matter how soft its face may look. It’s not as aggressive as hate, nor as bitter as resentment, but it is just as dehumanizing. When we’re caught up in contempt, we hold ourselves morally above the object of our contempt.

Anger and disgust can be directed at an action, but contempt is directed at a person, always. In contempt there is no significant connection to anything redeeming or healing. We might as well have mercilessly cast our offending person into a pit with no lifeline to anything that might help heal or remedy the situation. Contempt is a cold fuck-you, as calculating as it is cruel–a mix of icy disgust and toxic criticalness.

Where anger shows up as moral fire and shame as moral disturbance, contempt shows up as moral condescension. It is not out for justice (like anger) or remorse (like shame) but for condemnation. If we’re on the receiving end of contempt, we’re not on trial (as we might be in anger) or on the hot seat (as we might be in shame), but we’re already sentenced from on high, with no parole. Contempt is resentment in snobbery’s garb, finding enough satisfaction in its heartless dismissal of its target to offset any envy it might have toward that person.

In contempt we not only dehumanize the other, but ourselves as well, marooning ourselves from our heart in the process.

Getting back to THE FACTS. I have twice been accused on this thread of "raining" on Trump or "Being negative." I ask for evidence and I get silence. Because the accusations were baseless. Some Trump people here are acting just like Dem fascists. I used 2 adjectives to describe Trump on this thread. For the presser, I said he was "good." His speech in Phoenix, "Very Good." This is INSANE folks. You all bounce back and forth between me and the bra salesman and me and Trump. You seem at times to be conflating the two. I imagine the bra salesman likes that. The FACTS on this thread are, I was positive and laudatory about Trump. I was "contemptuous" of the bra salesman. It's on the record in writing!!

Now, the bra salesman is bringing in his hurt little feelings about things I've said from weeks and months ago. He is an emotional cripple, like most Irish. He lets his anger fester and then spurts it out weeks/months/years later. A few good hearted people tried to play peacekeeper on this thread. I thanked them for their efforts, explained how I have tried to come to some sort of peace, and that it is futile. The man lives like the movie character he uses as his screen name. We are both complicit in this dysfunctional relationship. I am man enough to admit it and made attempts to improve it. He can't admit anything. He must stay in character @ all times. I'm tired of this girly Reality TV horseshit, and I know you all are as well. But, you can see the Reality TV guy wallows in this drama by his reference @ 1:04p. He's auditioning for another show.
